Tillman is tops
I'm sure a lot of fans would have loved to see Chris Tillman get a chance to win this game, and he would have gotten that chance if the Orioles hadn't wasted five baserunners in the last two innings.
The decision to remove Tillman was sound. I think we're going to find out after the game that he was pitching through some back stiffness, but he still worked deep into the game and was very effective. Interestingly enough, he must have loosened up some late, because his fastball creeped up into the 90s in his last two innings of work.

Comments
Watching the pitch speed graph on MLB.com Tillman fastball was showing low 90's but had shown a progressive slowing down through the fifth inning.
Agree with you Tillman showed alot of determination on the mound. He just needs to become more efficent with his pitch's throw. Especially early in the game.

A very encouraging outing. A fastball that is still a little too straight for "the bigs" (just ask Julio or Benitez) but hard to argue with the results. Definite progress from last time.
Also, if Scott can play first next year, that alleviates the logjam a little. But a power hitter is still needed and Snyder doesn't fill that need, even if he is ready. And, to get the draft picks for Huff, they need to offer him arbitration, which he just might accept in this down market. Then there is little room for either Scott or Snyder as a starter. Maybe trade Scott in the winter as part of a huge package to get Adrian Gonzalez from the Padres. Wishful thinking.

Pete's reply: Obviously depends on who else is in that huge package.

I think he should have been allowed to at least face Inglett, but no second-guessing here.
The offense should be ashamed of themselves for letting Tillman leave this game with a ND.
Now they better at least win the game.

No excuses for the O's offense, but the umpiring in this game was attrocious, especially at home plate.
The Jays pitchers were getting calls (especially low strikes) all game that O's pitchers weren't getting. Not to mention that foul by Huff clearly hit the dirt, and then the ump stands there like an idiot while Chavez gets rid of the ball.

Not to mention Overbay's phantom swipe of Mora at first base. What a disgusting finish to a game.

There were definitely a couple of bad calls: Mora at first and there was a stolen base that the Blue Jay fielder made a phantom tag at second.
Aside from that: I thought the most important at bat was from Mora with 1st and 3rd. He did not get a hit and that to me was the big spot for the Oriole hitters.
Luke Scott is agitating me right now as well. Maybe he should sit down for a week or two? He just can't hit right now.
Tomorrow should be interesting with Matusz.

Trembley lost this game for the team. Had he replace Huff for a pinch hitter in the 10th with Markakis on second...with no outs???
Someone like Pie..and had him bunt Markakis to third.
He can do a brave thing like stand up to Mora's rants.
But he can't tell Huff to bunt or bring in someone who can?
The Orioles would have won this game.
I have seen this bush league managing from Trembley at least 20 games this season on the MLB network.
This guy needs to go.

Hey great outing by Tillman-too bad we didn't score after the 4th to get him the win.
As soon as Baez came in, I knew we were destined to lose. You have to give Tallet a lot of credit as he shut the O's down and made most of our hitters look bad chasing balls, etc.

Brian, how do you get a contusion from jogging out an infield groundout?

O's are hands down the worst team in the league at moving runners from station to station.
All DT wanted to talk about during the offseason and spring training was how this team would be fundamentally sound. It's flippin' August and they can't get a runner from 2nd to 3rd with no outs!
I'm counting down the days until we get a manager who doesnt change the line up EVERYDAY, who stands up to his players for the sake of the TEAM, who demands more from his veterans instead of babying them, and who has an overall clue how to manage a ballgame.
This is flat out embarrassing.
Our rookies deserve better. I'm not saying they should be in the playoff picture, I'm saying that they never will be with Trembley.

We should fire Trembley because the offense scored only 2 runs. Lord knows that's enough runs to win ballgames. And it's DT's fault because he kept Tillman in too long. And what's even worse is that he took him out in the 7th inning with 2 outs. That darn Trembley. Always overmangaging. He should've never let Roberts foul that ball off his foot. What was he thinking? If I was a manager, I would've had Roberts steal 2nd base after the walk. All he had to do was run it off. I'm a spectator and I know everthing. OMG! And those 10 runners LOB... it's DT's fault because Mora was in the lineup. He should've had Wigginton start at 3B. Because Wiggy is so much better with his HOT BAT. I'm gonna start a petition to MacPhail, urm, I mean MacFAIL, uh , yea.... FIRE TREMBLEY!!!!!!!!!!!

Dave/Typical Intelligent Fan,
Either you studder or the two of you are equally astute or maybe if you post the same thing twice under two different names it will look intelligent that you agreed with yourself. The only other thought is Dave Trembly is now defending himself on a blog and wasn't sharp enough to change his name the first time he posted??????????

I got a guy on the other line about some white walls, I'll talk to ya later.
I've seen enough to know a Minor League Manager when I see one....

hey Dave,
have you seen moras stats...
it wouldn't take a genius to sit him down for the rest of the year....

Peter--very happy about the emergence of our Kiddie Korp.
(Bergesen, Tillman, and Matusz got "Flanagan, McGregor, and Marinez" written all over 'em.)
Amazed at the negativity of bloggers......have the brass to sign your real names, and we'll take you more serious.
the 2009 campaign is unfolding the way we all expected....gearing up for oh-10 with the young arms.
Comments?

Pete's reply: I think most of the young pitchers will be in a growth curve next year, so I don't know what to expect, but I think this team will be way more competitive next year -- especially with a couple of significant acquisitions.

Pete,
"I think this team will be way more competitive next year -- especially with a couple of significant acquisitions" would that be like the Pie, Zahn, Wiggington or the starting pitching we picked up before this season! This is Birdland, where no self respecting free agent will sign and the team that spends no money? Do the Cubs have some more trash to unload in Baltimore?
Watching the last 11 years of Orioles baseball, after 35 great ones reminds me of Groundhog day, the movie! But football is less than a month away!
