Rex rolls the dice
The Jets scored in the final 22 seconds of the game and could have tied the score by kicking the point after, but Rex Ryan obviously wasn't interested in taking the game into overtime. He kept third-string quarterback Erik Ainge in for the two-point conversion, but his pass over the middle was batted away.
Nevertheless, Ryan was all smiles when he hugged John Harbaugh at midfield after time expired.

i was a little more than perturbed that the jets were able to do so much passing on our defense. what happened. they (defense) showed up at the very end. i like joe, but he needs to get more complete passes. i know its just preseason, but i wanted this win. get stover back. i wonder about harbaugh sometimes. why would he give this kicker stover's #
i agree with the non football comment posted.

I cant complain we dominated the game for the first half , troy smith interceptions and a second. third string defense made it close.

Not trying to be overly critical Pete, but when you put up 7 threads in the course of a couple hours it makes it hard to get any kind of coherint discussion going. Just my take.
Anyway there was plenty to be pleased about with the Raven's tonight, but equally as many negatives.
The look on Harbaugh's face said it all after the Gano missed field goal. He had plenty of leg for a 47yarder but apparently he has a problem missing wide right. I think Haushka will win the job.
Leon Washington was a one man wrecking crew tonight. The Raven's sucess always starts with shutting down the run and there looks like there is work to be done there.
Troy Smith looked awful. Non shalant attitude and throws. The offense looked completely lost, like the didn't know what play was supposed to be run, while he was out there.
McClain gets my vote for that last linebacker spot. He's a playmaker. Barnes is second, followed by Gooden. Burgess and Ayembodayjo, not to mention Ellerbe, are gonna make good pick ups for some other teams.
Ngata is an absolute beast and a freak athlete. Can't wait for this guy to start getting the respect he deserves. Haynesworth's contract will make things interesting this offseason.
As always let's pray (or whatever else you do) for the health of the Raven's starters this year. This is gonna be a good one if everyone stays healthy.

One thing did concern me with the first-stringers was the runs up the middle against.
Posted by: waspman | August 25, 2009 7:47 AM
I really wouldn't put too much stock in Leon Washington being able to do so much against the team. If the Jets had given Washington the ball even 5 more times per game (whether by run or pass), the Jets would've gotten to the playoffs. He is to the Jets what LT used to be for the Chargers, what Reggie Bush was supposed to be for the Saints, and what Adrian Peterson is right now for the Vikings. He doesn't get a lot of coverage, but he IS one of the Top 10 best RB in the league. Eric Mangini just never seemed to want to give him the ball for whatever reason.

djph- burgess and ayenbandejo and ellerbe will all be with the ravens this year. they arent going anywhere, especially ayanbadejo, we signed him because hes a great special teams player. i also think gooden is getting that LB spot, hes more all around talented i.e. he can cover a RB.
emjay-there is nothing to worry about with harbaugh. the ravens made a great decision hiring him over rex or anyone else who interviewed. i am very impressed with everything he does. and we dont need stover just for kicking 35 yard field goals and under anymore. i think we all need to get over him being gone and realize haushka is gonna be fine
we have a good team and i think an injury hear and there wont hurt since we have developed a lot of depth (although id rather everyone stay healthy).

Have to laugh at the "unbiased" people at the Sun. Saw these headlines on the web from the Ravens and Orioles games.
Ravens give Ryan rude welcome back
Cam's offensive plan outfoxes Rex's 'D'
Tillman falters after starting strong
Chris Tillman a 21 year old rookie with just a hand full of major league starts, pitched great for six innings, giving up two runs. Yet he "falters."
The beloved Ravens, with their "explosive" offense, who were outplayed for more than half the game and should have lost easily if it weren't for two interception returns for TD's, are hailed as giving a 'rude welcome' and outfoxing Rex. Little Troy the Heisman winner Smith was horrid in the time he played, no one other than Derrick Mason can catch the ball with any consistancy, yet they gave Rex a 'rude welcome' and outfoxed his D. What a joke. Also nice and that Ray Ray the ex con didn't have the class to greet Rex and former teammates Scott and Leonard after the game but had to run down the steps to the locker room quickly. At least Ed Reed showed class.

Pete's reply: Wow, I don't know what's going on here. You really think there's some agenda in the headlines after a preseason game? The Ravens first string was better last night than the Jets first team. Simple as that. Everybody likes Rex, so there's no agenda to make him look bad. We also wrote that Tillman was great last night, but faltered in the sixth inning. I believe that's called the truth. If you've got some real axe to grind, spit it out.

Person complaining about you posting too often. Just can't please everyone. Makes me wonder how many posts would satisfy Goldilocks.

There was a real baseball game on last night. Are we finished with the O's this season?

Pete's reply: No, just took a break to watch a football game.

the ravens were clearly better, their first team d dominated

ron- we should be. watching that team makes me angry, too many mistakes. i'd rather watch little leaguers

Earl
Most people would watch little league than O's games a great example is ESPN having them on all week long lol. The only time ESPN covers an O's game is if they are playing the Yankees in a rare game like Arod returning or the last game at Yankee Stadium etc
