Ravens: Mason's tribute (updated)

The Ravens are going through their afternoon practice at McDaniel College and Jamison Hensley reports that Derrick Mason is wearing No. 9, which is the number his close friend Steve McNair wore for both the Tennessee Titans and the Ravens.

Don't know the significance of today's practice, but it's a nice gesture and I'm sure we'll find out Mason's reasons soon enough.

Update: Mason did not comment today on the uniform change, but Hensley reported in his Ravens Notebook today that the team's leading receiver will wear No. 9 in practice for the remainder of the season as a tribute to McNair. Mason will, however, continue to wear his usual No. 85 during games.

Ray Lewis on WBAL tonight: While we're talking Ravens, you'll want to join me at six on Sportsline (WBAL 1090AM). My guest tonight will be future Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis. If you're not in signal range, go to WBAL.com and click on the "Listen Live" icon.

Did he clear that with Rex Ryan first?

Is the NFL allowed to fine him for that? If not, I'm sure the rule's being written up right now.

I thought low numbers like that were for QB's and kickers?

Doesn't the NFL still slot numbers for specific positions?

If they do how can he do that without approval. Or maybe that's why it's happening now and not when Mason rejoined the team. He (and the Ravens) may have had to get permission for him to wear the number. But then, like that clown in cinncy found out last year when he changed his name, it didn't match what all the stores are selling?

Looks like this might be a bigger story then it first appears. Glad we have someone like you on top of this.

Have at it Sherlock

Pete

What is the over under on how many God references Ray will make on your show?

I assume he'll be on for 2 segments so I'll say 7.

GOOD ONE

Outside of a couple homers, very strong outing for Tillman tonight. I guess it's good that these young pitchers are realizing early in their careers that even if they pitch well, they won't win many games with this team.

how close are they to the record for hr allowed in a season? It's reached funny-silly status at this point

Nice job by Tillman tonite. Maybe at some point, probably around 2012 or so, limiting the opposition to a couple of runs might get you a win.
Let's give Luke Scott such a long look at first that they figure out he's not the answer. Infatuation with streaky .267 hitters needs to stop.

so instead of taking Tillman out after a solid 6.....and letting him feel good about his start lets send him out just to start the 7th and see if something bad will happen,,
this has been going on all year long........ too early too late with the pitching matchups

why do we have a team rule that all pitchers must let the other team hit at least 3 home runs every game.

Pete's reply: Perhaps you could schedule a debate with the guy who was ready to rip Trembley if he had taken Tillman out after six. After all, he was doing great, so why take him out.

Rusty and Sam- hilarious!

Pitching to contact is one thing. Pitching to the fat part of the bat is another.
Burrell stinks, he homers consecutive nights...
what the hell is the scouting report on these guys?

i really want this O's season to just end.. wtf man

AM’s 5 year plan is going to need a new manager and a few free agents to work. If they don’t get those pieces smartly standby……

Any truth to the rumour that the Vikings are going to sign John Smoltz?

The five year plan is just stall tactics.. by then Angelos will have sold the team

Angelos is a scumbag

That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
