O's: Jones hurt (update)

Adam Jones had to be removed from the game after coming up sore on a swing in the first inning. He stepped out of the box and reached behind his back, then tried to stretch it again int he dugout. The trainers quickly escorted him up the tunnel and Felix Pie took his place in center field.

He apparently tweaked his lower back and did not appear to be in terrible pain, so you'd have to guess he'll be day-to-day. I'm sure there'll be a report on MASN in the next couple of innings.

Instant update: The Orioles announced that Jones suffered a "mild middle-back spasm" and will be re-evaluated later today. You can probably figure on Felix Pie starting in center for at least the next couple of games.

Good job so far Mora and Andino!

THIS IS TURDLAND!

So far they're doing OK without him, I hope he gets better. I think we need to keep Pie for times like this. GO Os!

Interesting that Riemold can play with partially torn achilles and assorted other bumps and bruises and Jones comes out with the first twinge in his back. At least Pie won't get the stare down today from Jones. Looks like Jones learned has already picked up some tricks from some of the "veterans"

What about Judge Reimold going deep? Too much anger here, the future looks quite nice for the Orioles.
Who's available at the corners this off-season?

Shaun,
Ever had a sore back? Are you just crazy or what?

No way he should stay in the game with a sore back

1) It's hard as heck to play with a sore back

2) You want to make sure it's nothing serious

3) You don't want to aggravate it before you know what is wrong

Not that I am any expert, but as a long time fan I had my doubts about Pie. This guy may yet justify Andy M's faith in him. I see that Garrett Olsen has gone down to AAA anyhow.

First, why would one want to keep Jones in there when he had a back spasm? Second, ifyou want to be discouraged, look at the free agents available at first and third next year; third, we've all been critical of Pie but he's showing some promise now except I still think he has trouble going back on balls; fourth, I would put Aubrey on first and Wiggins on third for the remainder of the year. I'd release Mora-he's just in the way and not contributing anything.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
