Hernandez evolving
Orioles rookie David Hernandez did a pretty good job again tonight, though he continues to have trouble holding down his pitch count. He's pretty good at getting ahead of hitters, but allowed too many of them to fight their way back into more favorable hitting situations. Not that it ended up hurting him much. He worked his way out of some trouble and delivered a quality start, giving up just five hits and two runs over six innings.
The guy is coming along. He struggled against quality teams in three of his previous four appearances and generally has had less success facing teams for the second time, so he has some more growing to do if he's going to establish himself permanently in the Orioles' rotation of the future.

The Orioles just want the fans to get a full 9-innings of baseball entertainment.

Ugh! JJ gives up another game. Rough one to loose after Mora has a good game for once in a month.

I knew it, I just knew it, I just knew he was gonna serve one up, this has got to be the most frustrating team in the world to watch!

So is Dave Trembley going to be a jerk and cover his butt by calling out JJ to the media now?

Pete: All kidding aside. If you had to guess right now, would Johnson be the closer next year?
..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Yes, at least to start the season.

Pete,
Say it ain't so, I was watching Michael Vic and turned on the O's late, the beginning of the 9th and with a one run lead, our "STOPPER" give up a dinger to the number 9 hitting in the Indians order (his 2nd of the year) and were now down!
Pathetic! Anyone who thinks Johnson is a Closer is gravely mistaken. Maybe for a last place team.
Just sickening to waste another good starting effort!
............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I think it's your fault for watching Michael Vick and jinxing the club.

One out to go...eighth and ninth hitters...that should be a win. Ridiculous, once again.

This...........is birdland.

After about 20 pitches a relief pitcher becomes very ineffective…

Don’t give up yet guys Kerry Wood sucks also.
Posted by: Frank | August 27, 2009 10:08 PM
Why was Ray taken out? When he's on, he's usually not bad; but DT has this philosophy of bringing in one so-so reliever after another until one of them coughs up the game. Why would any young prospect sign with the O's? Markakis and Roberts must be wondering what they were thinking.

Another "respectable" but tough loss. This year, these are the moral equivalent of wins!
How long are we supposed to act brainwashed and pretend we believe that line?
Posted by: deasy | August 27, 2009 10:16 PM
Oh man… Way to give up a lead at home with 2 outs to the Indians hahahhahaha What the heck is up with Kakes??
Posted by: DENNY | August 27, 2009 10:16 PM
why is anyone surprised or disappointed by any of this? So they lose another game.
It's not a big deal. To lose it on a home run?
Almost predictable, the team leads the AL in HRs allowed. To lose it with 2 outs and nobody on is just the icing dripping off the cake. Lighten up folks. The sun is coming up tomorrow.
And hey, a little rally happening. You never know.

and then of course they have to give you the big tease before they fall short in the end, tho it looked like Nick held up.

Really don't know where to start with this loss. Pitching, hitting, base running, coaching. It's all bad. I think the Orioles just might surpass the Pirates current streak of losing seasons!

JLO
I would think if they are paying Koji 5 mil they might want to try him over JJ
Posted by: Seth | August 27, 2009 10:37 PM
If Rays arm is ok. Why not give him a shot at the closer job. He had the job before.
Posted by: Doc in baltimore | August 27, 2009 10:38 PM
Boy, some tough members in the audience. Going into tonight, JJ had given up just one run in all of August and people lose their minds because he coughs up a pair.
Whether it works out or not, why would we not be taking a look at JJ. We are not in a pennant race. We have absolutely nothing to lose. It lets us learn a little about his make up at no cost, and does not push Ray back into the role to soon.

I now know what that insane 2110 Eutaw street ad means. This is the year that this stinkin franchise will be over 500. Fans are sick of this crap. This is and always has been a football town anyway. Yes Fire Manfred and Hunter while you are at it. Thorn stinks too.

Pete,
I agree, he is coming along. I was at the game and it appears that Hernandez has confidence in two pitches, fastball and slider. He also needs to learn to locate his pitches better, his fastball ends up belt high in the middle of the plate too much. He needs to use his changeup more and use a straight curveball.
He has an opportunity to pich well at the major league level, but it will all be about his control and location.

LMAO at the first post.
Fire Hunter!!!
Great post though Pete. Hernandez is exciting to watch, as is our whole rotation. Even Berken has been watchable lately. With four young outfielders and an exciting young rotation, in addition to Bell and Snyder coming up soon, I'm amazed with what AM has done here. Just amazed.
