O's, Ravens on same wavelength...for a moment
There was a moment tonight when all was right with the sports world in Baltimore. Cesar Izturis was at the plate with the rain pounding down on him and the O's needing him to drive home the go-ahead run from third in case the game was rained out. He delivered a triple to break the tie and bring on the tarp. Unfortunately for the Orioles, the rain eventually relented, though not before creating a plumbing disaster in the dugout.
The reason that moment was so significant to me was because of what was happening at almost exactly the same time down in North Carolina. Joe Flacco connected with Todd Heap for a nifty touchdown pass that put the Ravens ahead of the Carolina Panthers to stay in their third preseason victory. Both teams took the lead simultaneously, but only the Ravens could keep it. No great surprise there.
The Izturis hit, of course, had no chance to be as significant as the Heap catch, even though the Orioles were playing a regular season game and the Ravens were not. The Ravens have been looking for Heap to re-establish himself as a go-to tight end, and he certainly looked like that with four catches and the touchdown in tonight's game.

I don’t think Baltimore even claims the Orioles anymore its Phillies, yankees and Sox country. Ravens are the only team in this town. Most people that show up to the Orioles games are yuppies talking about stocks and bs, out of towners, people that just want to get drunk and laugh, or they got the tickets for free from friends or a contest, work etc. Whenever I go to the games and wear O’s gear I get ripped on by the locals for being a fan.

I think we should all pause on this Sunday to reflect on the ending of the Joey Gathright Era. Maybe everyone could respond with what was their most Special Joey Gathright Memory.
News flash: The Red Sox have just traded Joey Gathright to the Royals for Ryan Freel.
News flash: Fed up with Aubrey Huff's .074 batting average since joining them, the Tigers traded him to the Royals for Joey Gathright and a LoveSponge to be named Bubba.

Pete, There was a real nice picture by Lloyd Fox of the grounds crew. This guy can flat out snap a photo. When most photogs had their cameras on stand by in a rain delay, Lloyd kept shooting rain delay action. I've seen Fox's photo's for years and he knows how to find a good image, much like Fred Comegys (Delaware News Journal) and Butch Comegys (Scranton Times). All these guys are amazing.
Nicole Sherry and staff work hard to have the field ready and in shape, so it's nice see them doing their thing for a change. They are part of Orioles baseball to.
The photo editor at the Sun should also get a pat on the back.

Tillman and Trembley need to do a better job clogging those drains up next time.

If there is any truth to the rumors coming out of St Louis that Dave Duncan wants to end his 14 year career there the Orioles have to make a try for him. This is the guy that can do what the Orioles have been trying to do the last few seasons making broke down finished pitchers good again. Just a few of his recent accomplishments include fixing John Smoltz in a week, Fixed Carpenter after a 2 year absence, turned Ryan Franklin into an elite closer etc. He could be the pitching coach or manager here as far as I am concerned. He may actually like the challenge of working with a bad owner and out thinking the Red Sox and Yankees with less weapons a bad owner won’t provide.

Ryan Franklin's facial hair is simply awesome. 90s baby!! Thats why he is playing so well. The Orioles need to allow facial hair.

Pete....WHERE are your normal bloggers? Sunday @ Noon......either at church or sleeping off a bender from the night before perhaps? Even odds or is one a more likely than the other reason?

Pete's reply: Depends on your definition of normal.

Harold Baines should be in Cooperstown.
He hit more ropes to the opposite field than any hitter i've ever seen. And i've watched more baseball than i care to admit.
Thank goodness for tivo now
And go Felix. Very dynamic player for a "fourth outfielder". I'm not sure the Baltimore fandom and presscorps are deserving of his rather unique talents and skill sets. I know the current manager isn't. For some reason he's held to a higher standard than everyone else on the team. Can you imagine what would happen if he pulled a bonehead move like Chone Figgins did on the bases last nite to end the game? For those who didn't catch it, Figgins was out trying to advance to second on a fly ball, though he didn't even represent the tie run. Very Moraesque.

hey no hope.
guess what the odds are of losing 4 straight playoff games after being up 3-0?
wow, and you think your 80 million dollar pitcher has the best chance to beat our rookie....that would be amazing
you guys are like a bust every year in the playoffs,....at least we don't spend 800 million to not win the world series

Trembley should memorize Ozzie Guillen's rant...and use it 5 times per week & he'd be just about on the money.
Oh, I
forgot...we are just in our 14th. rebuilding season so these players & coaches are exempt from having to succeed.
What an absolute & total lack of concentration by Johnson & Ray...inexcusable at this point. Neither have the makeup for a closer...both would rather nibble & nibble & throw & throw. Closers challenge & go right after guys...these two are middle mopup...not slam the door shut in your face major league closers.

fire Juan Samuel!! And teach Wigginton how to slide. More idiotic baserunning, and poor coaching at third base.

Jack-
~~Oh, I forgot ... we are just in our 14th. rebuilding season so these players & coaches are exempt from having to succeed.~~
Wrong again! The single biggest error Angelos has made in his tenure is his REFUSAL to allow a rebuilding job until he brought MacPhail to do the job. You clearly know the difference, have had it explained to you ad nauseum and still state this lie repeatedly and with false convition.
So . . . we are left to conclude once again that:
You hate the Orioles and are emotionally invested in their failure.
Dont mind showing yourself to be ignorant of the subject on which you spend so much time posting.
Are too dull witted to think of anything new to say or any new way to say the same old lies and drivel.
Still think that you and you alone get to decide what constitutes success.
are willing to knowingly lie, embellish, exaggerate, misquote and slander in your campaign to trash the Orioles, their owner, front office and players.
Fire Jack!

Jack,
yeah what we really need is alot more cussing from our manager....cause everyone knows that ballplayes get all fired up and pitch better and hit better when their manager cusses at them and criticizes them to the media....
yeah, that Tony Dungy had it all wrong doesn't he realize that you will never motivate people except through yelling and cursing at them....
oh yeah he won a super bowl with the opposite model

Hey Mr. Anonymous...you sound a little paranoid. What lies? Misquote? Slander? What the hell are you talking about? I swear you must work for the DNC.
Here's what I said...Trembley could go off on these guys like Ozzie till the cows come home...won't make a bit of difference but, he might feel a little better. And I still don't see Ray or Johnson as closers...that's about it. And, don't for one minute imply that we haven't heard that the O's are rebuilding for years & years & years. I could care less whether you think it's "drivel" or not but do you think for one minute Angelos just woke up one day & said...I think the Flanny, Beatty, Duquette thing isn't working...let's see what old Andy is up to? That only happened because Oriole fans started staying away in droves, he became even more reviled than Irsay & those close to him finally explained you can't keep telling these people they are just a Will Clark in his 12th. season away from glory days. So now he makes a real effort...big deal...he's already 10 years behind schedule for this franchise.
Not sure how much you are allowed to read into posts in the world you live, but I never mentioned anything about the Owner or Front Office in my post so put the crayons down & read again.
Bottom line:
Orioles are bad...yet again.
This is at least the 14th. year we've all heard we're on the right course.
Trembley deserves a meltdown.
Angelos has been a miser for most of his ownership & when he did spend, it was ill-advised by a less than steller Front Office.
Me Phail is making progress.
The O's do have some very nice young kids.
Ray & Johnson are not closers. Now go to bed.

Hey Pete...
I am not a Ravens Fan, but since you are knowledgeable in all things Baltimore Sports related, I have to ask, Do you think Ray Rice is for real? I ask because for some unexplainable reason I have him on both of my fantasy football teams and have a really good feeling about him. Any thoughts?
..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I believe he'll rush for 900+ yards this year and get 500 more yards receiving. The Ravens hope he can be durable enough to be a mini-Westbrook.
