Rich Hill tonight
Rich Hill doesn't figure to get a lot more chances to start for the Orioles, so tonight would be a good time to jack up a game like the one he pitched against the Seattle Mariners back on June 1. Remember that one at Safeco Field, when he pitched seven shutout innings and gave up two hits and the Orioles scored a rare 1-0 victory?
Okay, you'd probably settle for the game he pitched against the Phillies three weeks ago, when he gave up two earned runs over 6 2/3 innings at Citizens Bank Park.
Hate to break this to you -- if you don't already know it -- but there aren't any home games that you'd want him to replicate. He's been hammered in his three starts at Camden Yards, which is probably the reason he was going to be skipped in the rotation until Jeremy Guthrie had to be scratched.
Hill has given up 17 earned runs in 10 2/3 innings over his three starts here. I think that works out to a 14.34 ERA at OPACY.
Can you say "Law of Averages?"

Hill needs more than the big breaking. Needs to be able to change speeds more effictively. Used to get ball up to 93. Control has not been the issue everyone worried about but lack of velocity. Still hurt?

I hope they haven't over estimated this line-up. The team is in real trouble if they have. Aside from Luke Scott no one on this team has carried it all year. On good ball clubs, there is always more than one player to step up and carry the team. This is how good teams avoid losing streaks. I remain hopeful that someone other than Luke will step up in the second half. This rebuilding project could be big trouble if they don't prove that they can.

Are we going to get the game in tonight? Hope so, I took the Bolt Bus down from NYC to come to the game and root for the O's from some pretty sweet seats.

Pete,
Between you and me, I don't know if we have an options. It doesn't appear that the Front Office is ready or willing to let anymore youngsters arrive. While Hill hasn't been to consistent he offers what appears to be more upside than some other options.
On a totally unrelated note, how bout them one winged Angels laying it on the Skankees!

Great article by your colleague, Dan on O's prospect Tillman turning heads in minors, apparently everyone's except AM! If he's going to throw 100 pitches every 5 days, with some of the efforts we've been getting, GET HIM UP HERE!
Oh by the way did I tell you in an unrelated matter that a host of unknown Angels are flogging the Skankees!
