Pregame Dave

Dave Trembley delivered an update on a couple of players to begin his pregame news briefing. Chris Ray is scheduled to start his throwing program today, then will go to Sarasota to continue working his way back from a bout with biceps tendinitis. Trembley said he does not think it will be a lengthy stay.

He also reported that Jeremy Guthrie (virus) is better and wants to throw on the side tomorrow, but will have to be cleared by team internist Dr. William Goldiner.

Nolan Reimold is not in the starting lineup tonight. Luke Scott will play left, Ty Wigginton will play first and Aubrey Huff will be the DH. Trembley said he wanted to give Reimold the night off because he appears to be putting pressure on himself.

"Reimold seems to be pressing,'' Trembley said. "He's had some good early sessions with Crow (Terry Crowley). He's had a very good first half of the season for us. I think he's pressing a good deal. I think people have adjusted to him and he has to make the adjustment to what they are doing to him."

Pete,

When is the Sun projecting to send you to Sarasota to begin your rehab?

............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I floated the idea, but it sank.

Hey Pete,

I am a Baltimore guy born and raised now living close to your ole stomping grounds in Long Beach. Big O's fan despite their struggles for the last decade or so. I believe they are on the right track.

I was reading School of Roch and saw that you tore your Achilles. I am commiserating with you brother. I am recovering from the same surgery on July 17th. Before the injury, I was scheduled to go to bmore on that day to catch a few games in Baltimore and Philly before heading to Miami for a few games. Needless to say, the Achilles injury shut down those plans.

Btw, i was just about to explode toward the basket during a rec league basketball game when my injury occurred. Basketball was not invented for us guys over 40.

Good luck on your recovery my man!

Check the stats pete and look at what these guy's have done this year compared to last year at this time. They are all underperforming. Brian is hitting 20 points lower, nick is hitting 15 points lower with not as much power. huff is hitting 29 points lower with 8 less home runs. we don't even have to talk about what Mora is doing. Now with that said this has nothing to do with what was projected with the orioles as a team before the season began, this has to do with everybody except adam jones and scott underperforming. But according to you i would assume the word underperforming is not how you see it.

Is it true you hurt your achilles chasing after an ice cream truck? I saw some footage on YouTube and it looked like you. Get well soon.

Pete,

As I have patiently waited for now more than 11 years for my beloved O's to return to prominence, I have found great solitude in seeing the Skankees LOSE!

That said have I mentioned recently that a bunch of nameless Angels are kicking the ever loving *@#! out of the $247M SKANKEES!

Keith Rowe- Check the standings

Hey Del.....another long time O's fan living in Long Beach, Ca.........

Stay off the basketball court and try surfing...

Its been a long time but i keep rooting for the birds to snap out of it.

My parents are still in Towson....in their 90's and watch or listen to every game.

I hate to see old people tortured.....

Pete .... are you from Long Beach? Must be buddies with Krikorian....he is one crazy SOB.

Pete,
Do you know what band it is that George Sherrill uses for his intro music. It's a cd that I own but I can't figure out who it is. I want to say Godsmack but I think that's wrong. Please help-its driving me crazy!! Thanks Pete.

Call me crazy....but i would play luke Scott every day until he goes 0 for 20. Left handers, right handers, under handers.....play the guy. Over the winter see if he has any skills at 3rd base. The guy can stroke.
Huff at third.....Scott at first.......why not?

............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I can think of one or two reasons, but I've got no problem with Scott playing all the time.

Scott is the team MVP so far.

Sherrill's song is "Blood, Milk and Sky" by White Zombie

yeah let's cut mora to you idiots that suggested that idiocy. Dude's hitting .260 plus with stellar defense. Stop being dumb, suggesting that garbage.

I don't understand the comment to play Scott until he goes 0 for 20. Going 0 for 20 doesn't mean that he would then proceed to do poorly in the next 20 at bats. Baseball is a game of random fluctuations. The so-called streaky hitters, and the so-called clutch hitters are just demonstrating that randomness - that is, there are no clutch hitters and there are no streaky hitters. There are clutch hits, and there are hitting streaks, but they occur as a function of the player's average skill, not as a result of some other factor.

Thank you so much EC..I knew Sherrill's song was from a band that I loved but from an album that wasn't my favorite..Lasexorcisto Devil Music vol. 1 was the soundtrack to my high school years but didnt like Astrocreep 2000 that much...I believe that song is from that cd. Thanks again.

Pete,
I am sick of all the criticism that Angelos gets for being cheap. The fact of the matter is many free agents don't to come here bc they have better options. I can think of Jose Valentine, Chuck Finley, Justin Speier, Brian Jordan, Paul Konerko, Vlad, Paul Konerko and Texiera. It would have been irresponsile for the Orioles to offer more than they did.
How about an article about the Orioles greatest "misses"...meaning they were free agents that they went after but backed off of after the demands became too much of a risk..and Angelos (or the front office) ended up being right. I can think of Aaron Sele, Carl Pavano, and Alfonso Soriano off the top of my head. Angelos may have made some questionable decisions over the years but I don't think it has been due to a lack of willingness to open his wallet. Your thoughts...
Also, I am an Oriole Advocate and we would love to have you at one of our upcoming meetings to do an Q & A...

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I don't know if I'd include Soriano in that. He's struggled lately, but he's had some great years.

i agree Justin i think PA is an easy target and not really relevant anymore. He got gunshy after the Belle contract and probably Scott Erickson but he's shown some willingness to spend at times. I think he needs to spend some money on a manager though. Schools of thought vary on that, but the last 3 bargain first time managers have struggled in managing the roster/lineups. It seems they spend more time placating a last place team than actually leading.

Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
