Let's get it started

Orioles public relations guru Jeff Lantz just pointed out that the Orioles leadoff hitter has reached base in each of the first four innings and in each of those cases, the runner has scored.

In other words, getting the leadoff guy on apparently is a pretty good idea.

Community Service update: OriolesREACH, the club's community relations arm, announced at a pregame news conference a new program in conjunction with the Baltimore City Public Schools to support education initiatives for the city's youth. The summer learning program -- entitled Learning with the Orioles -- will help nearly 14,000 students at 84 elementary and middle schools.

Don't you know that's how it always starts. I don't know the stats on this, Pete, but leadoff walks generally lead to runs, I'm curious to know the rate of how many teams in general score when the lead man gets on.

Pete, are the O's expected to sign any international prospects tomorrow?

Pete's reply: I haven't heard a word.

So I guess Trembley's evil plan to destroy Bergesen's confidence by throwing him to the "wolves", of Becket and Boston didn't quite work out huh?

Roy you need to wait to make comments like that lol! Bergy did do good today but i am sure he is a bit disappointed the RPs failed him.

Peter, I see you drummed up a lot of interest with this post.....kinda like talkin ball to my wife :) ....well, at least there was one response related to the subject! Ok, lets make it two....

I also bet that if we had the leadoff batter on base every inning, we would score more runs...have jeff check out that fact!!

Pete's reply: Hard to argue with that.

just a guess but if we got the second hitter on base every inning we would probably score more runs too. And if we got the 4th hitter on base every inning it would mean we never had a 1-2-3 inning and so probably would . . . score more runs.

Pete,

I enjoyed your column about running Trembly out of a job. I would however, add that it's not just the baserunning and the fundamentals, but Dave's decisions regarding line-ups, pitching changes and failing to use his bench as pinch hitters. Quite frankly, he may be a great guy, he's a horrible manager. A pitcher struggles and NO ONE goes to the mound until 4 runs have scored.

If this team is going to move forward, DaveT needs to be moved, but lets not blame baserunning and fundamentals alone, DaveT has facilitated this outcry from boneheaded decisions!
