Dave's new lineup

It only took until the second time through the batting order for Dave Trembley's revised batting order to produce some results. Nolan Reimold, hitting in the fifth slot, doubled to left with Aubrey Huff on base in the fourth inning and eventually scored on an RBI single by Melvin Mora,.

Reimold also singled in the sixth and has scored two runs. Mora added a two-run double in that inning and has three RBI so far in the game.

Trembley switched Melvin and Reimold in the lineup because Melvin was not producing runs or hitting for extra bases. Problem solved...at least for the moment.

Bergesen is pretty much mowing down the Nats. He's thrown 105 pitches through 6. Unless he tells Dave he's gassed, he should start the 7th. These pitchers get babied way too much.

Pete's reply: It's sizzling here. I've got no problem with taking Bergesen out.

Mora is a class act. Really like him. Absolutely love Reimold. I used to watch him hit homers at Bowie. He was a man among boys there. Give him some time and watch out.

Pete,

Nice line-up move ABOUT TIME! Nice to see Brad win despite not having his usual control!

Pete's reply: Well, let's see a few more games before we anoint the lineup a success, but it sure was nice to see everybody hitting.

I like the new lineup..'bout time! Reimonld, with better pitches to see, will more than hold his own in the 5 and Mora will be ok in the 7spot. Win win all around!
Love Mora as a person and as a father but his skills are eroding and he is reaching the end of his playing carreer... give him a round of applause, the rest of the season, for all he has given us the past few years! (no, it is not too soon!)

Washington's pitching staff is fried already and it's only June. It's asking too much from a bunch of kids to carry a pitchigng staff. They need to just go unload a Brinks truck at Strausburgs house and stick him in the rotation.

Tell me again why they used a first round pick for a closer?

What takes Trembley so long to make these switches? Talk radio has been saying this for two weeks already. Also, who is faster,Mora with that FRIDGE on his back or Ty with the PIANO?

Pete's reply: It's pretty amazing how fans are usually smarter than the manager. The thing you don't take into account is that talkshow callers and bloggers (including myself) throw out a million scenarios and then only remember the ones where it seems like they guessed right. If the move worked -- and, guess what, it was only one game and all the RBI came from the No. 7 hole -- then I would logically conclude it was made at the right time. Melvin Mora drove in 100-plus runs last year, most of them in the second half. Since this isn't a rotisserie league, you have to take into consideration what might make that happen again or prevent it from happening again.

I just watched a show on the MLB channel and it brought back memories of when pitchers were expected to finish games they started instead of relying on relief pitchers to blow it. Mora is a class act. We should be happy that he plays for our team.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
