Berken goes too far

Jason Berken stayed in the game for another inning after giving up two runs to tie the game in the sixth. Just another example of Dave Trembley starting to give some of the young starters a little more rope, but it was also another situation where he guessed wrong. Berken was very impressive through five innings, giving up one hit and striking out seven, but he clearly was losing steam in the sixth.

I'm all for letting them pitch longer.
Bring Hernandez back up and let him pitch.
DT guesses wrong a lot. You think if he had better players he would guess correctly more often? Or do you think he is just a bad guesser regardless, perhaps a family affliction, and will be haunted by that the rest of his managerial days, which if you do a lot of wrong-guessing, might not be all that long. Maybe there is a way to take the guessing out of it? You think?

you know, the yanks drop 2 of 3 to the nats. the o's dropping 2 of 3 to the mets, no biggie. I guess.

Pete's reply: Oh ye of little faith.

pie to pinch run? just a guess

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please tell me Aubrey pumped his chest and pointed towards the heavens after the game winner. Frankie - welcome back to the A.L.

Now who would have guessed that ending? I'm telling you, the Mets are lucky they play in the NL East. There is very little difference between these teams. Next year the O's will be hands down better. You have no clue what it's like to be up here in CT and have to listen to the Yankee and Met malarky.
AM will be Executive Of the Year.
Omar Minaya has the blueprint for spending 135mm and ending up building a shack.

You're not alone, Jim. I'm an O's fan in CT, too. What's even worse is that there are no radio stations strong enough to carry games up here.

I'm a long-suffering O's fan in Easton, PA, about 3 hours from Baltimore. I used to listen to the night games on the radio up here when they were on 1500 AM and then 1090 AM. Now I pay $14.95 year to listen to the games via mlb.com. Actually I paid another $5 to upgrade so I could see video highlights during and after the games. Well worth it to me.

Berken was developed as a 5-6 inning starter, the only way to get him to pitch deeper is to make him pitch deeper. he was lights out fr 5 innings. the problem is the O's have to over rely on baez and albers to bridge them to the 8th.Should have kept hernandez as a middle reliever and dumped hendrickson.

Get hendrickson on a south bound train asp, do be as big as he is, he cant pitch, field, or do anything to help this club, hernandez should have been allow to stay up and do some long relief. The notion of trading huff
to a contender is nonsense, keep him right here in baltimore, allow snyder to
a good taste of trp (aaa) and we will see him next spring along with huff.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
