Today's featured comment
Today's featured comment comes from Anthony, who got a kick out of my finding a way to tie my coverage of Saturday's Preakness Stakes to one of my favorite 60's sit-coms, so he tied that sit-com (Mr. Ed) to our favorite sport:
Anthony's take: Hey, this is sports-related AND Mr. Ed-related ... if you've never seen the episode where Mr. Ed joins the Dodgers, you haven't seen one of the funniest scenes in TV history. Ed rounds third and goes sliding into home, prompting the Dodgers' absolutely terrified catcher to climb the screen. I believe it was Roseboro behind the plate. Leo Durocher, Willie Davis and some other Dodgers were in the episode. CLASSIC!
My take: It sure was, so I'm throwing up a publicity shot from the show for those who don't remember and don't watch TV Land.
Bonus take: Is it just me, or is there anybody else out there who thinks Ed would be an upgrade in that No. 5 hole in the Orioles rotation? I'd also settle for the guy to the right of him.

I would settle for that guy on the right as well - even at his current age of 74.

If Ed was on the Dodgers, why was the Dodger catcher behind the plate when he was rounding third? Was it an intersquad game? A simulated game? Bud's new interspecies play is not my favorite idea.

Pete's reply: That's been bugging me for decades.

well if you want the guy to ed's right that would be wilbur and there really isn't any horse sense with that pick. the guy to ed's left however is the greatest pitcher in the last 50 years sandy koufax.,, of course of course. koufax by the way could have helped the o's off season basketball team as the lefthander went to the university of cincinnati on a basketball scholarship.

Pete's reply: Nice catch on the right-left thing. I fixed it, even though I think you could interpret it either way. I agree on everything you said about Koufax, who I had the honor of being around at spring training for three years with the Dodgers in the 1980s. Very nice man. Very classy individual.

Yeah, but who would pitch on Yom Kippur?

You watch a show about a talking horse playing for the Dodgers and what you wonder is why Roseboro was at catcher? Isnt that like watching Gilligans Island and wondering if Gilligan was Maynard G Krebs in witness protection?

Pete's reply: Fair point.

Too bad the guy on (my) right isn't available. I bet he can still bring it. (PS @ Tim in NOLA: Give Sandy a break; he doesn't turn 74 until December: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/k/koufasa01.shtml)
