Orioles: Guthrie sizzles
Jeremy Guthrie matched a career high with 10 strikeouts and might have set a new one if he had been able to convince manager Dave Trembley to let him go back out for the seventh inning last night. He had thrown 113 pitches, but argued against the decision to turn the game over to reliever Matt Albers.
"Guthrie wanted to go back out there and pitch again, which is a great quality,'' Trembley said, "but he had done enough. He had pitched enough."
Trembley and Guthrie did agree on one thing. That was the best Guthrie has thrown the ball all season.
"I felt very good,'' Guthrie said. "I felt like I had all of my pitches working low in the zone for the most part. I felt pretty good out there."

Where is the best place on the net to find stats? Also, where is the old stat for bullpen pitchers inherited runners they let score? Any help is appreciated.

Pete,
And.............................. so the guy is pitching his best game of the year, just went 1-2-3 in the 6th and kept the team in the hunt and with momentum having just swung back to the O's you don't let him go out and start the 7th! I know it had to be a hard decision with the always lights out bullpen Dave has, but really why is it that Dave seems compelled to do something when nothing needs done. In fact it was the Detroit pitcher who through some 12 more pitches and gave up two runs in the 6th and he comes back for the start of the 7th! And the Tigers back end of the bullpen looks much stronger than the O's! How many World Series has Dave Trembly been to or won? And Jim Leyland? I believe Dave was schooled last night, lets hope he learned something!

I'm glad Guthrie at least wanted to go back out. You know it's kind of funny that he's the first guy since Erik Bedard to strike out 10...he's been very Bedard-esque this year.

I'm old skool and can not stand the fact that our pitchers are removed by the sixth or seventh inning without fail . It seems that a good pitching performance is then nullified by our bullpen .
