Meche no match for Orioles

Gil Meche signed a huge free agent contract with the Royals before the 2007 season, but he hasn't beaten the Orioles since he was with the Seattle Mariners in 2005. That didn't change tonight, even though he was staked to an early two-run lead.

He surrendered Aubrey Huff's seventh home run of the year in the fourth and was knocked out of the game in the fifth when the Orioles struck for four runs on a two-run triple by fill-in No. 2 hitter Cesar Izturis, an RBI double by Nick Markakis and a run-scoring single by Melvin Mora.

Nolan Reimold update: Reimold hit a line drive to shortstop in his first major league at-bat. He grounded into a force play in his second plate appearance.

Wasn't Hendrickson originally brought on to be a long reliever?

Pete's reply: Yes.

I'm with you Pete, Gil Meche doesn't exactly ring up Roy Halladay #'s. Look at the dudes stats career-wise. We've also hit him well historically. (so has most of the league).

Good game so far guys, keep it up.

Hey Pete, I dare you to call the reverse lock for tomorrow's game........Grienke vs. Eaton. Double dare ya.......

Pete's reply: It's very tempting. I can't think of a more lop-sided pitching matchup. But I'll have to do some research and find out if it's even possible to call a reverse lock against the Royals.

If this team had pitching, they'd be dangerous.
On the bright side, Pie can hit a bit. And run. His catching is improving. He walks a bit. Write his name in the lineup every day.If the kid has a work ethic anything like Jones, he'll be fine.
Trembley's forte is developing young players. Let's see where Felix is at the end of the year.

looks like felix is getting fundemental things in order. i gotta go by what i see on gamecast and by stats :S .. i really wanna see him develop intr a great everyday player.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
