Good news for Scott

The Orioles may have dodged a bullet with the injury to designated hitter Luke Scott. The MRI he underwent on Monday revealed no serious damage to his painful left shoulder, so the team has not made a move to replace him on the roster.

It still remains to be seen whether he'll be able to avoid the disabled list. He seems confident that he'll be ready to play when the Orioles get to Kansas City this weekend. I wouldn't bet against him, since he's a gamer who wants to be in the lineup no matter what, but he still has to get past some significant soreness and stiffness to be effective at the plate.

I think he'll got retroactive to sometime in the past week. He'll DL just to make sure he has forced rest time.

Any comments on Hendrickson tonight? What are the odds he pitches a perfect game? 50:1?

Pete's reply: I'd give a million to one on that if I was an oddsmaker.

So even if he goes on the DL, it looks like it might not be a prolonged stint. If that does happen, I would prefer Salazar over Reimold coming up. I think, if they are to bring Nolan up, it needs to be a Brad Bergesen-type situation - not a tryout, not an audition, it's his job.

Of course, the way Felix Pie is playing, Nolan may have that job by June 1.

I would think a perfect game for Hendrickson would be giving up a single, double, triple, homerun, walk and hitting a batter in one inning of work.

Trembley says going on the DL was the "...worst case scenario...". Why is that? What are the ramifications of going on the DL other than Reimold could come up and play a little?

Having actually torn a rotor cuff myself , if he's just got a strain , and just DH-ing there should be no reason to go on the DL . IMO

Seems those would have been good odds, Pete. Nice 2nd for ol' Mark. I say he is #1 for being replaced by young blood later in the season. He's pretty much toast as a starter.

Pete:

Are the Orioles the worst baserunning team you've ever seen? 5 straight hits and a walk and yet you have only two runs and two outs? Samuel's decision to send Montanez is insane down by four runs, and Izturis appeared to not be hustling into second base. If the Orioles are going to put a crappy team on the field, they could at least avoid making stupid mistakes.

Pete's reply: This past six weeks has featured some of the worst major l eague baserunning I have ever seen.

The Orioles stupidity on the bases continues and yet nobody ever wantsto point a finger at the coaching staff? Why is that.Down by three and you send Montanez?Stupid.A pop up and you don't even slide into second base?Stupid. We gave away at least 2 to 3 runs. The ineptitude of this team never ceases to amaze me.Then Roberts makes a bad flip and there goes the double play. And Dave will put on that goofy look and say "we tried, but things didn't go our way,had some bad breaks and mistakes"yadda, yadda, yadda, and yet people still come on here and defend him,I don't get it.

Pete's reply: The game's not over yet. Juan Samuel had a couple of bad sends in this game, but got bailed out early on by Adam Jones.

What happened to Pie that W had to go play left? Was it that strikeout looking or the workout he seemed to get in left tonight?

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I guess he's got an upset stomach.

The base running stunk last year too...have to put the blame on the C Staff....

Problem is Juan Samuel is not the one running, he would have made it easy, even at age 48.

Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
