Finally, all's quiet on the front office front

The Orioles are not expected to make a roster move today, or talk about making a roster move tomorrow or speculate about what the next roster move will be, which makes this the first day in a long time that there hasn't been something pending.

I realize that some people are curious about what happens when Koji Uehara is ready to come off the disabled list, but that's just not on the radar right now.

The only other move that I would like to see is Perez being called up. The O's have guys they can count on in JJ, Albers, Baez, Bass and George, but Walker isn't getting it done. No doubt that there will be days when Walker will be called upon in a situation like JJ was called upon last night, and that scares me because JJ can't picth every night nor can Baez go two days in a row.

If the current starting rotation does well will they put Koji in the pen? He is dominant over 3-4 innings and would be great in the 7th or in long relief.

Pete's reply: Not right away. I think he comes back to the rotation this time.

Hello Peter,
I know your saying there is nothing in the offing, BUT in your humble opinion who is the next rookie call up on the horizon. We have heard so much about Wieters and to some degree Reimold that Maybe there is someone NOT getting mentioned that is ready to bust out.

Pete's reply: If I had to guess, Wilfrido Perez.

Hey Pete, What is the average age of the current roster and where does it rank across mlb? As the Orioles get younger perhaps they should slow it down a bit and not jetison the vets just to create roster spots. Everyone wants Jaimie Walker gone but who would be the next wipping boy? At least he hasn't walked anyone this year. And since his best pitch is a change-up maybe Trembley should abandon the left-left matchup and just use him as any other reliever. Mike Scioscia won quite a few games, including a World Series title, without having a lefty matchup guy in his bullpen.

Pete's reply: I'll have to get back to you on that.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
