Dempsey endorses Pedro

Moments ago on the MASN broadcast, O's baseball analyst Rick Dempsey listed the Orioles as one of the teams that would benefit from signing free agent pitcher Pedro Martinez. In an exchange with play-by-play guy Gary Thorne, Dempsey said that Martinez would strengthen the Orioles pitching staff and agreed with Thorne that Pedro could be a mentor for some of the younger pitchers.

I'm pretty sure Dempsey's opinion does not reflect the official view of the organization. The Orioles have denied any interest in Martinez every time I've inquired about him, and I don't believe Andy MacPhail has had a change of heart. If the club were interested, it would have made much more sense to sign him right after the World Baseball Classic than it would make now.

I'm pretty sure the Orioles orginazational views include one ot two more losing seasons without having to to pay much money while having people Pie,Izturis,Zaun and Wigginton batting around 100 for the last 3 weeks. The morethings change the more they stay the same.

I've seen enough. I'm going to bed. Pedro instead of Hendrickson? To sleep, perchance, to dream...Hell, I bet even Hamlet has a better fastball than Lefty the Lobber.

Pete,
I know the O’s have a solid plan for the future which hopefully works out but this current season has been very frustrating for the hardworking fans. Pedro could at least keep people interested even if he doesn’t work out. We play the Mets this season and if we have him pitching at Camden yards it would draw in a crowd. Also we could use him against the Phils, Bosox and yanks which would draw national attention and would help pay his inflated rate.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! I HAVE HAD IT WITH THESE MONKEY FIGHTING SNAKES ON THIS MONDAY TO FRIDAY PLANE!!!

Let’s stop this “rebuilding” dreamer insanity and be realistic….. We are tanking!!

Pedro is washed up. No two ways about it. Dempsey is a nut, and while his demeanor is amusing at times I think there's a reason why he's not the O's GM. I'd pay to see Tillman, Patton or Hernandez, but not Pedro in a million years.

Zahn should focus on other matters, and leave the pitching decisions to the brain trust.

If Pedro pitches well he could bridge the time util some younger pitchers are ready -then we could trade him for more prospects at midseason.

Condolences to Mr. Schmuck. He has to watch all 81 games. We can all change the channel and watch good baseball.

I totally agree Pedro is washed up but unfortunately so is Hendrickson...

the last 10 days have been tough to watch. i was going to buy th package of sunday games. but enough with the poor pitching.
as i've said before bring up the youngins and let them play

Someone will sign Pedro, might as well be the Orioles. He has to be getting hungry to play, but wants to capitalize on the opportunity. That makes it tough for a team that is not competitive. They have to decide one way or another what to do. Hendrickson belongs in the bullpen. Either you go with different starters now from the minor league system or sign Pedro. They need to show they care one way or another.

Mike,
I have 10 more games left on my plan this season! Lol I’ve been to 3 games so far and we lost all of them….
I hope the O’s do bring up the kids but if they don’t they should make some kind of move for Pedro or somebody to at least make things interesting for the fans. Maybe next year they will offer "rebuilding" pricing plans….

Peter,

What do you think about the posts on here and why was this story kinda hidden off the main page? I think you are secretly lobbying for the O’s to get Pedro :)

Pete's reply: I was during spring training, but not really now.

That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
