Today's featured comment comes from Johnboy, who read about Canada native and former O's pitcher Erik Bedard and became curious about another Canadian former Oriole:

Johnboy's take: Speaking of home grown guys making it good-- do you have any news on where Adam Loewen is and how his transition is going?

Pete's reply: Adam was assigned to the Blue Jays' Class-A club at Dunedin, Fla., but he started the minor league season on the 7-day disabled list with a shoulder injury. I put a call in to the team today and was told he is expected to be activated on Thursday and could make his minor league debut as a position player this weekend.

Off topic, but as that I accept this as a rebuilding year I am already looking at the trade deadline to see how the team can be improved. Of the everyday players those that I see most likely to move are Huff, Scott, Freel and Wiggington and the pitchers on the trade block would be Baez, Walker, Hendrickson and Sherrill. What we would get for them in return wouldl obviously depend on how well they do the first half of this season. Assuming they all perform well, Pete, what do you think could be squeezed out of a contender in need of one of these players at the trade deadline?

Pete's reply: I believe Huff will have value at that point, but I think the club will keep Wigginton and will not be able to find a taker for Freel.

Dunedin? Sweet thats only a 25 minute drive for me. I might have to go down there and express my hapiness with his decision this season.

Pete,

I live in Salisbury, MD home of the Delmarva Shorebirds. Over the past couple years I've seen a few guys come through the organization and eventually work their way to their call-up at the yard. Most memorable recently was when I worked during the summer in high school, and I got to see Nick Markakis developing early on (2004). Are there any guys at Delmarva right now that you sense could have great potential? I haven't gotten to the park yet this season, and want to know who I should be looking for!

Pete's reply: I have to admit I really don't have a good feel for that level.

Pete,

How will you remember Harry Kalas?

May he Rest In Peace.

Pete's reply: Certainly one of the all-time greats. Sad to hear of his passing.

Pete,

Not sure if you consider this newsworthy, but I'm amazed--

Daniel Cabrera just successfully laid down a sacrifice bunt.

Good evening Pete. I enjoyed your live chat this afternoon. So much so I thought I would indulge you with some follow up questions. You seemed to allude to Rixh Hill having issues outside the physical realm and I was wondering If you would care to elaborate. Also I had asked a question regarding the shifts against Scott and a Huff, just as a brief follow up it seems highly unlikely to get a hit other than a homerun given the ground covered.I know they won't get anything on the outside of the plate to hit the other way so isn't it statistically better to just put down a bunt thanks.

............................................................................................
Pete's reply: It seemed like Hill was looking for an excuse not to pitch. Just my opinion. I think Huff handled the shift well and, as a result, broke out with a bunch of opposite-field hits.

Thanks Johnboy for asking about Loewen, and thanks Peter for making the call to find out.
I was wondering about him just the other day.

That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
