Perfection is unattainable
I want to thank everyone for pointing out the typos in my last entry of Thursday night. Sometimes I get in a hurry trying to input the postgame stuff and I type it too fast. Of course, that's only because I care.
Maybe it also was because I was so busy gloating about my amazingly accurate pre-game call on Adam Eaton's performance last night. Sometimes, I even amaze myself, especially when I get through a day without stopping at a single drive-thru.
Let me clarify the clairvoyant thing. I do not claim to have any special insight delivered to me from the great beyond. I'll leave that to that John Edward guy, who claims to have some celestial inspiration, but still can only come up with the first initial of the dead person that's talking through him. You'd think if there was some real divine inspiration, the surpreme being involved would not turn it into a guessing game.
My occasional correct prediction is the result of a couple of things, the first of which is the law of averages. Adam Eaton had struggled for quite awhile, which, in my mind, increased the chances of him pitching better this time. The other thing, of course, is the simple fact that a blind squirrel does, indeed, get an acorn once in awhile, though I've had some pretty good luck in the prediction business lately.
Here's a prediction that I know will come true: I'll be on WBAL (1090 AM) at noon today with Clarence Mitchell IV and Sean Dobson of Progressive Maryland to argue politics and take your calls and get a little nutty like I always do. If you want to join in and are not in signal range, just go to WBAL.com and click on the "Listen Live" icon. I guarantee we'll have fun.

Great game by Eaton last night...much needed. Going to see Tillman at Norfolk tonight....I'll post tomorrow on one fan's impression.

I do not claim to be psychic either, Peter, but I will share in the glow you are basking in. I am one of the few people around here who has shown any love for Eaton on this board and I went right out there on the limb with you. We can gloat a little today and make as many typos as we want.
Orioles fans, don't be so impatient with Adam Eaton. This guy is a decent back end pitcher in MANY rotations around the league.

Eaton looked good last night. Amazing what can happen when an O's pitcher throws strikes. We'll see if he can do it again. Looks like he's earned himself another chance.

I have a question Pete,
Did you by chance get to see Adam warming up before your prediction? I mean, if he looked amazingly sharp in pregame warmups I would even guess the guy would pitch well :) Just a thought ha ha
..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: No. I posted the prediction at 3:30, which is just when I got here. He didn't warm up until about 6:30.

Soooooo, then predict the year BB will have with us! Injury free? Complete games...W/L...innings..strike outs....girlfriends.....

Pete's reply: Not going there just yet.

Yo, Peter ... your errors were on your last entry on THURSDAY night, not FRIDAY night as you state in today's first entry.
Ooops.
.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Which, in a weird sort of way, proves my point.

Peter,
You deny having special powers but, we all know anyone with superpowers has to deny it to protect their family. Duh.

Pete,
Maybe you should just claim you forgot you weren't covering the Natinals (sic) where typos are expected.

I don't blame you for typos--I've been a reporter and a copy editor and know how hard both jobs are. Just a comment on the sad and declining state of the daily newspaper. Someone should be editing before anything goes to print or online but that's not happening.
..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: If you subjected blogs to the same level of copy editing as the journalistic copy they just wouldn't be timely or personal enough. I'll just have to do better.

Pete,
I live out in Silver Spring and unfortunately don't get any of the good radio stations. I was reading a couple posts back. What's the deal with the 1090 AM and 105.7 FM beef?
I have my complaints with 980 AM (like not carrying the Orioles games everyday) but I am clueless to what goes on outside... what's that all about?
.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: There's really no beef between the stations. They basically traded pro teams at one point. WBAL used to carry the Orioles and 105.7 carried the Ravens. We all get along pretty well, but I may have given the wrong impression when I took issue with Tom Davis's comments on Wednesday night. Make no mistake. Dave Johnson, Tom Davis and I are friends. There is no bad blood.

"a blind squirrel does, indeed, get an acorn once in awhile".
Couldn't be more true with Eaton. While he has proven to be a terrible ML pitcher, an 11.00+ era, even for him, is too high. Now it is a more reasonable 7.02, not far from a more realistic level based on his last several seasons.

I think you mean "typos in my last entry of Thursday night"
Perfection is unattainable

Do you mean "last entry of Thursday night"?
..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I obviously don't know what day it is. Please send food.

Your idea about the law of averages is flawed. The past does not affect the present. So the odds of his performance does not change just because he's done poorly.
...............................................................................................
Pete's reply: So you're saying I really do have special powers, since I had no good reason to predict that performance.

If you really want to impress your readers, give us the winning trifecta for the Ky derby next week!
..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I'd like to hit that just once. They're always huge at the Derby. I've hit a few at the Preakness, but there are so many fewer horses, it's not that difficult.

OK, you've been beaten up (almost) enough for those few mistakes in your earlier post, but I'll go the nit-pickers one better and point out that the psychic you referenced in this post is actually named John Edward (no "s," unlike the philandering former presidential candidate).
But seriously, Pete, keep up the great work. :)
.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Thanks, I fixed it.
