Orioles hit home
The Orioles hitters clearly are happy to be home in front of their familiar hitting backdrop. The victory improved their record to 5-2 at Camden Yards and they have scored 43 runs in seven games here, or an average of just over six runs and just under 10 hits per game.
Nick Markakis drove home the O's sixth run with a single to left in the sixth inning that was his fourth hit of the game. It was his 10th career four-hit game. He came up one more time in the eighth inning, but walked ahead of Aubrey Huff's second home run of the evening.
Luke Scott had three hits and a walk in five plate appearances, raising his average from .267 to .306.

Little premature Pete? I mean I feel safe, especially with that second annihilated baseball that Huff just hit...but this is our team we're talking about...

Good evening Pete: What a great time to be an oriole fan. I can't remember a more sucessful debut for an anticipated pitcher . I'm trying to recall Bedards debut, but I may have had one too many mai tais since than. My question is if Montanez hits anywhere close to last years numbers when he was called up; is the front office prepared for the mutiny among orioles fans if he Is sent down in favor of Pie again when Freel returns. Thanks as always!

Pete's reply: Don't see that happening if he does well, but I doubt they are thinking that far ahead.

I can only follow the games online, so, Pete, how did Bergeson really look? His line, only 1 earned run in 5 2/3, reads well, but did he pitch that well?

Pete's reply: Yes. Great sinker and slider. Great poise. He dueled Carlos Quentin, who I believe is the major league home run leader, for 12 pitches before striking him out in the first inning. It was quite impressive.

Markakis is leading the AL in RBI's, with 18, and runs scored, with 17, and is 2nd in the AL with 6 doubles.
He's quickly developing into one of the best all-around hitters in the game. Not Pujols, but he's ELITE.
Let's hope the pitching can develop in the next couple of years so that he can one day pick up the MVP trophy he will deserve.

oh my... we might have found a *gasp* third reliable pitcher... premature, but good signs are good signs, and Bergeson looked good for his first start. Pete, is there any chance that if we get halfway through May strong, it'll push up the timetable on those other young starters we've got? I'm anxious to see what we've got.

Pete's reply: I wouldn't be surprised if another young pitcher comes up in May or June, but they won't get carried away.

Hey, big win for the good guys(to quote WSox's Hawk Harrelson). I like the idea of bringing in fresh arms, especially if they pitch like Bergesen.
We still need another arm so as much as it hurts to bring up hims name-what ever happened to Paul Byrd and is he an option worth considering? There's some prso and cons with him but surely he's at least better than Eaton...thoughts?

Pete's reply: If I recall, Byrd wasn't interested in pitching until the second half of the season. Don't know if that's the direction I would go on a rebuilding team.

How crazy is it that our lineup is so lopsided so far. The top of the lineup has been producing big time and the bottom has been pretty bad coming out of the gate.
Pete do you think the O's should be moving Luke Scott up to the 5 spot until Mora returns? I'm pretty sure Ty Wigs will come around eventually but for now I think we should keep our hottest regulars lined up properly.
When Mora and Jones return I'll feel much better. It's scary to think that come mid year (if healthy) our lineup (including Wieters) will feature the best 1-9 talent since the O's murderer's row in the mid/late 90's when we had all those guys hitting 20+ HR's.
And can I just say that although Izturis isn't counted on for offense, I feel a lot more comfortable with him hitting then any SS we've had since Miggy.

Certainly a great outing for BB, and looking forward to more, but did Brian Bass (oh wait, another BB?) really come out and pitch a scoreless ninth?? His ERA is almost back to single digits!
