Team USA rolls on
Going into the ninth inning of last night's WBC game between Team USA and Puerto Rico, I was starting to think up what questions I was going to ask Jeremy Guthrie and Brian Roberts when they reported back to camp today.
It didn't look good after Puerto Rico scored an insurance run in the top of the ninth, but Shane Victorino and Roberts battled their way on base with nobody out and you probably already know the rest. And if anybody thought the American players are just going through the motions in this tournament, the post-game celebration at home plate put that notion to bed.
Now for the bad news. Melvin Mora apparently will miss tonight's game against Team USA and a chance to face Guthrie because of a hamstring strain. I'm sure Dave Trembley is thrilled to hear they need to clear space in the training room for another injured Oriole.
On deck: Get ready for some split-squad action today with the St. Louis Cardinals in Fort Lauderdale and Jupiter, Fla.

The game last night was awesome and made me see how much the players care about the game

I guess that's why we have guys like Ty Wiggington. Mora has been playing really well in the WBC, however, and I think that if he's healthy he will have a really good year, both on offense and defense.
Regardless, I think the signing of Wiggington basically pushes Mora out the door after this year, and maybe at the trade deadline if he agrees to go. Hopefully by the time Wiggington's contract is up, Billy Rowell will be ready to go.

I'm a quick reader. Sometimes I glean over lines for the gist before I actually read it more thoroughly. When I saw the word "Guthrie" placed in close proximity to "hamstring strain" my heart began to sink, but then it buoyed back up on reading "Mora" at the head of that sentence. The up and down tells me it really is the start of an Oriole season. Here's hoping for more up's than down's.

Anyone else have an incredible feeling of confidence for the US once Cabrera threw his first pitch?
Never a doubt in my mind he'd blow it.
