Orioles: Today in a nutshell

The Orioles have their first day off in this expanded exhibition schedule and they will spend it playing amongst themselves. Today's seven-inning intrasquad game starts at 11 a.m. and will feature Hayden Penn and Danys Baez as the starting pitchers.

Dennis Sarfate, George Sherrill and Jamie Walker are scheduled to make their first competitive appearances of the spring. They have not pitched yet, according to manager Dave Trembley, because relievers don't need as much time to get ready for the season and training camp is a week longer than usual.

Rich Hill said this morning that his arm feels slightly better today. Still don't know if he'll take his turn in the rotation on Saturday. I think it's doubtful.

Pete-Is the game open to the public?

............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I don't think so, because I don't see any fans around.

With injuries to Hill and Parrish, the only vets in camp with 'starter stuff' allowed to compete for the three remaining rotation spots, it's time for Trembley to man up and go to the doctor for a 'CRANIUM RELOCATION PROCEDURE' to cure his severe case of 'OPTICAL RECTOSIS'..... and give JIM JOHNSON a shot at the starting rotation. There are PLENTY of AVAILABLE arms that can't go through the lineup more than once that can compete for that '8th inning role'. As it is, we still may have to use Bergie in the rotaion if injuries keep mounting....

I have a bad feeling about reading of sore elbows , shoulders, etc . , and that's Pete . I'm not even talking about our pitchers yet.

Hi Pete, Eaton in yet? I know he is a long shot, but it should be interesting.

Pete's reply: Haven't see him yet. He's due in town today, but I don't know if we'll see him until tomorrow.

Hey, how about that? Just like a home game with the Royals :)

I would love to see an O's versus O's game. Gauranteed a win.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
