Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in
The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.

so I checked out the box score and it said that Jeremy Guthrie walked 22 men, all within a 75-85 pitch count....impressive!

Pete's reply: Yes, that's hard to do, but Jeremy is a special guy.

Pete,
It's good for Felix Pie that there is not an open competition for the LF spot because Montanez has totally outplayed him. I understand the O's like Pie's defense, but he has yet to prove he can hit major league pitching even in spring training.

Pete's reply: I'm glad somebody likes his defense, because I'm still waiting to see it.

I don't get how Montanez hasn't earned the LF starting position. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Pie has an error or two and Montanez has a couple outfield assists. The hitting isn't even close and Lou showed at the end of last year that he could hit in the big leagues. 26 is still young, isn't it?

Pete's reply: Yes, but Lou is 27, which is much, much older.

Pie is showing why he hasn't made it and likely won't. Let me be the 100th guy to make the inevitable Corey Patterson comparision but in fairness to Corey, at least he had a few decent moments/half seasons.
Pie looks like the multitude of failed O's OFs-Bigbie/Richard/Matos-good on paper and in a uniform but nothing much in the way of production.
Let's all hope that we don't keep sending Pie out there game after game if he hits a buck ninety.

Another possible trade:
The Orioles trade Montanez (or Scott) to the Kansas City Royals for SP Brian Bannister. He (Bannister) is on the bubble, but I think he a power pitch who can log some innings and I think with more consistency can be very good.
