Eaton on Eaton
Adam Eaton did not make any excuses after giving up five runs in the first three innings of his five-inning performance today, but wants everyone to know it'll be different when the lights come on during the regular season.
"I struggled,'' he said. "I didn't have everything working at the same time ever. My curveball was lacking in the first inning or two, then it came around. My fastball was good early. When I made some pitches, they still hit them. It was frustrating for the most part.
"I still got five innings in and 90 pitches. In that regard, mission accomplished, but I wanted to go one more. ... It's my fifth time on the mound. I feel like I've progressed."

you better get use to the offense bailing out the starting pitching. The O's offense will be in the top 10, the pitching will be in the bottom 5.
Its going to be a long and frustrating season. Management better keep a sharp eye on the minor league arms and bring up who ever looks the best. In the meantime cross your fingers and buckle up, cause its going to be a very offensive summer.

The pitching will be last in the league in 2009. What team could have a worse pitching staff? Can't look for Tampa Bay to be worse anymore. As the season wears on and arms begin to tire, we'll see attitudes go sour, motivation drop and ERAs skyrocket!!! Hopefully Montanez, Jones, Pie, Weiters will benefit from the season somehow.

I want to be optimistic about this season, but how is that possible?
Just over a week to go in an extended spring, and we are just now seeing our first 5 inning effort and the guy gets bombed. Just over a week to go, and the starting lineup is still more questions than answers.
The only thing that gives me hope is my prediction, right after camp, that the Ravens would be lucky to go 8-8.
If Trembley manages to pull off some sort of miracle and get the O's somewhere close to .500, McPhail should give him a 20 year contract.

Pete--I think the name "Eaton" makes some people think that Adam is an "innings eater." If your idea of an innings eater is giving up 6 runs in 5 innings, then Eaton is your man. He was once a prospect with a buzzing fastball. He lost that fastball a few years ago and does not have another out pitch. That the Phillies let him go and are entertaining Chan Ho Park, of all people, as his 5-hole replacement should speak volumes.
Who cares that the Birds are only absorbing the league minimum in Eaton's contract? Putting him in the rotation is an insult to those of us who love the Orioles and pay attention to the details, i.e, know something about baseball.

Eaton has no idea what AL East batters are capable of, he'll be in for a rude awakening if indeed, he is the # 3 pitcher and has to face the Yankees for his first start of the season...

With Eaton in consideration, its obvious the Orioles are playing for a high draft pick this year. Throwing in the towel very early. Too bad.
