Roberts, Hendrickson make up

Jeff Zrebiec relayed a funny scene in the Orioles clubhouse the other day. New pitcher Mark Hendrickson walked across the clubhouse and chided Brian Roberts about the friction that developed between them last year when Roberts stole third base on Hendrickson in an exhibition game.

Roberts defended himself by reminding Hendrickson that Marlins shortstop Hanley Ramirez stole third base earlier in the game.

The exchange was light-hearted and -- with the encouragement of noted peacemaker Aubrey Huff -- Roberts got up from his seat and gave Hendrickson a big hug.

Upon further review of my previous blog item, I think Brian should be grateful Hendrickson is not a huge box turtle.

I think, if Hendrickson were a huge box turtle Roberts would have been able to take home on him and that would preclude the O's even picking him up.

I dont think Roberts really had anything to feel bad about. It was an ST when players are trying to get into shape and get ready for the season. Part of that is reading the pitcher and getting good jumps.

Hendrickson should be happy he has a job and has Roberts in the infield when he pitches.

When you are a career subpar pitcher with an era almost 6 in the NL east Iast you have a reputation to maintain. Maybe that's the stepped to Roberts. This is one guy who I am not looking forward to seeing pitch. Or in an Orioles uniform period. He is lucky to have a job and I haven't liked him since they signed him.

They have ladders tall enough for Roberts to hug Hendrickson? :)

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
