Orioles: Melvin on WBC
Melvin Mora seems pretty stoked about playing in the World Baseball Classic. He didn't take part in the first one, but he has had a lot of experience over the course of his career in international competition.
The WBC, however, probably is not comparable to the type of atmosphere Mora has experienced in the Caribbean winter leagues.
"I talked to a couple of friends,'' Mora said. "It's exciting because you get to play together and meet the stars from every country ... Japan ... Korea. ... It's something you enjoy because because you don't know when you're going to do that again."
Here's Mora's take on the difference between playing in the Latin American baseball leagues and the American major leagues.
"It's more fun than playing here,'' he said. "The people, they don't like to lose. The emotion. The passion they have. It's crazy. Here, if you play bad, all they do is boo you. If you play bad there, they throw stuff at you."
If you want to read more about Melvin, check out the sports section on the Web site later this weekend for a feature on him by Orioles beat reporter Jeff Zrebiec. It'll be in the print edition Monday morning.

Look for Mora to get a hot dog upside the head this year. As Americans, we shall not be outdone.

Pete, don't the fans throw batteries at yankee stadium?

"Oh, wait a second...they do throw lots of stuff at me if I play bad here...GREENBACKS! How could I forget about that?!"

You may get your wish. If the O's don't turn it around, there may not be that many fans left at the Yard, but they just might start throwing stuff! (haha, just kidding Melvin, we're not Mets fans!)
On the bright side, looks like the O's finally had a productive winter. Now maybe some of these top prospect arms will develop and give us a good rotation someday?

Interesting - I am sure that will be a good story. I am sure glad he was not around for seat cushion night, or miniature bat night here in Baltimore. Or like Reggie Jackson who had to have debris removed from right field every inning.

Well if it is more fun playing there, stay there and play. I'm sure the O's can find someone else to play third base.

So is Melvin whining about this one too, complaining that he should play 3B instead of Cabrera?
He didn't get a chance to play in the last one because he was an immature idiot.

Mora may have had his last hurrah as a hitter last summer, but he has been here for almost a decade through some of the worst and most chaotic situations any modern player has endured.
Yet he has remained exceptionally loyal to the organization, the city, and the fans. In a town that worships loyalty, such a man should not and will not go unappreciated.
I hope he stays with the team after his playing days are over. He would be the logical and perfect successor to the wonderful Elrod Hendricks.

Well Melvin...go back to where you like to play then! And remember who made you a rich man!
I was told Tejada and Mora were cancers in the locker room....and now I see why!

Pete's reply: I think you're totally misunderstanding what he was saying, which is my fault for not getting it across. He loves playing here and he appreciates the fans because they are more respectful. What he was saying, and I've seen it myself going to games in Cuba, is that the fans are totally out of control and the energy level is super high. The players prefer to play here where it's not so volatile, but he was equating that passion with fun.

Pete-
Melvin Mora stated that in the Latin American league that when you play poorly the fans throw objects at you. What makes them unlike the half-cousins of morons who threw batteries at opposing outfielders at old Yankee Stadium?

We'll see Melvin Mora in the Orioles Hall of Fame Someday! Thank you Melvin, for your years of service on The Orioles. You have NEVER demanded a trade, even though The Orioles have had a losing season every year that you have played for us. And you never gave up last year, when all of The FAIR-WEATHER ORIOLE FANS were on you. Youy simply stepped it up, got player of the month, and wound up with 103 RBI's.

P.S. Pete: If angry, miserable Oriole fans are going to say derogatory things about Melvin Mora, then they will do so REGARDLESS of what you print. Don't think for one second that a poster that bashed Mora did so because he/she "misconstrued" what you wrote. They would have bashed Mora either way. As for the rest of us TRUE, LOYAL ORIOLE FANS, we are still here...... All six of us.

Pete,
If Mora gets off to a good start, look for him to be dealt before the trading deadline.
If he gets off to a bad one, look for Wigginton to be playing third.

PETE: I just saw your video on Yankee Fans at Oriole Park. Well, I have lived my WHOLE LIFE in BREWSTER, NY. And I Love The Orioles, and I hate The Yankees. I'll be at all three games on the opening series against The Yankees. I hope to see you there. I won't be hard to find. I wear my Oriole Fan mask. I've been rooting for The Orioles, The Colts, and The Bullets since 1971, and I remain loyal to all three teams. When I was a six year-old boy, I went outside and pouted on the swing-set in our back yard when The Pirates beat us in Game Seven of the 1971 World series. I've been bleeding Orange and Black ever since.

Pete's reply: That video is a bit dated, but some things are timeless, I guess.
