Ravens: Waiting for gametime

We're supposed to hear any time now exactly what day and time the Ravens will play the Miami Dolphins next week. It could be either Saturday or Sunday at Dolphin Stadium, but you'd have to believe the NFL would take into consideration that the Ravens lost their midseason bye week and give them the extra practice/recovery day.

Well, maybe you don't have to believe that, but I'm pretty sure it was brought up to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell at some point today. In fact, I am sure, because I asked somebody who would know and was told that some lobbying took place while Goodell was here for the game. Guess we'll find out pretty quick how much good it did.

Pete , you've got all the inside scoop . ..... Has Tex signed yet?

Pete's reply: Of course, I put that up and left the stadium, and they released it an hour later while I was doing something else. I guess I should just sit in front of this laptop all day long. Only way to make sure everything is up to the minute.

1:00 Sunday, maybe the lobbying worked.

Pete's reply: Thanks. I took a couple hours off tonight and -- of course -- that's when they released that info, not that you can't get it without me.

1 PM SUNDAY BOYS!

Let's go to work!

Guess the schmoozing paid off. Sunday at 1 pm. Not sure which is worse--playing Saturday night or the team having to spend a Saturday night in Miami again before the Sunday game. Although, after C Mac's issues earlier this season, maybe the team will be a little more vigilant about bed time this time around!

NBC just said it's 1 p.m. Sunday and that the Titans play the early game the following Saturday which has to be against the Ravens if we win because we're the lowest seed and the Titans are the 1 seed.

Fins 17 Raves 13... :)

So Pete, I'm sure (and I don't mean this sarcastically) that you just haven't gotten around to it yet, but The O's signed Hendrickson to what sounds like a 1-year deal with an option, pending a physical tomorrow.

Now that Tex has signed as well as Burnett and Sabathia, do you think the market will deflate for Lowe, Garland and Colon?

There can't be many bidders in need of their services that can handle the contracts they want.

I'm not saying I want The O's to go after all or any of them, they don't all fit the plan, but Garland would be nice. He'd turn 30 next season so he's got plenty of life left in his arm and could be a great addition in the long run.

Hendrickson seems like another Cabrera, but I'm guessing he's just way cheaper.

Your thoughts/a new post?

Pete's reply: Thanks. I heard that hit one of the O's message boards this afternoon and has been confirmed by Roch. Doesn't surprise me, since they've been talking to his agent (Joe Urbon) since the winter meetings, but I've been at the Ravens game all day so I have no first-hand information.

'm not sure the Ravens are in the playoffs. I've been watching ESPN and they haven't even mentioned today's game. But the Cowboys sure did lose. Also, the Patriots won but lost! I guess I'll have to look at the schedule to make sure this Raven thing is for real.

BTW, why does anyone go to the ESPN Zone downtown? That netowrk gives your team no love. Don't give them your money.

Yeah I was there too, section 506, thank God it was 65 degrees or that 20mph wind would have been Hell. Great win!

Terpfan must be a Deadskin fan as well! Ravens 24 - Fins 3

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
