Ravens: McGahee pops off

willisap.jpgJust when you thought that everyone in the Ravens locker room had bought into the John Harbaugh era, running back Willis McGahee (left) went on Sporting News Radio yesterday and blamed his uneven performance this year on everyone but himself.

When he was asked on The Monty Show why he hasn't been able to replicate last year's performance, he explained that "I tried to be someone else's running back this year and it didn't work out."

Apparently, he reluctantly changed his style and his offseason weight regimen to conform to Harbaugh's program, and now feels that's the root of his injury issues and his inconsistency.

"I didn't want to change it,'' he said during the radio interview, "but when you have a new coach and they've got a perception of you, you've got to try and change to stay on the good side of them."

Sorry, but that opinion would carry a whole lot more weight with me if Willis had felt the same pressure to show up at more of the voluntary OTAs. Here's one more McGahee comment from that radio show that should tell you all you really need to know:

"I don't know what this offseason is going to bring. It's been a crazy year for me with the talks of me not being there next year but regardless, I'm just going to go out there and play for me ... I can't play for nobody else but me."

Ahhh, in other words, he wants out, and this was his subtle way of saying it.

Another lunkhead that thinks "me first". Just like another client of mine, TO. My kind of client.

A talented, but very replacable, part in the offense next year so not a big deal. Just tell him to shut his trap while they prep for the playoffs. Then dump him like the Broncos do with RBs.

Well, lets hope "MEgahee", gets US at least a 2nd round pick.

And to believe I had rthe nerve earlier last month to write that I had gained some respect for McGahhe for the way he has handled his poor season this year, goes to show you can only keep mal-contents from stirring up trouble for so long, let's make him a reservation on the "McAllister Express "and ship his sorry self centered _ss out of here, "NOW"!!

Dallas has a team of me, me, me, and me. Perhaps they need a running back. See me later!

If I read this situation right McGhee played for me right off this team.

There is no me in team.

I hope he is gone next year. How selfish can you be making these kind of comments in public going into a playoff week. Ray Lewis ought to knock his block off.

I wouldn't make a big deal out of comments made on talk radio. Let's be honest, just like Suggs, McGahee isn't a scholar and routinely puts his foot in his mouth. I'm not a fan of most of these radio shows because they purposely try to get the player to say something that will stir things up. I also can't imagine he really isn't playing for any of his teammates because he has brethren from "The U" on this team and he and McClain seem to get along great. Let it go!!!!!

i don't see that these comments are all that big of a deal.
he was just being honest.
of course he is going to play for himself.
they all play for themselves as well as the team. and he's right he most likely won't be back next year. so he has a legit concern about his career.

Get him off the team now. Send the message that BS is not tolerated, period.

Hey, I've been a big supporter of Willis the past couple of years, but with that kind of attitude, particularly right before a big game, I say "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out."

Hey, I've been a big supporter of Willis the past couple of years, but with that kind of attitude, particularly right before a big game, I say "don't let the door hit you in the ass on the way out."

Take the cap hit to get rid of this cancer. He, McCallister, Scott and the rest that refused to buy into Harbaugh's vision can ply their trade elsewhere next season. It is amazing how great a player can be in the Ravens system and then when they go to another system become completely mediocre! I guess the Ravens now better than their players; and thank God for that!

Leave him in Baltimore this weekend on the inactive list to play for himself.

Hmm......just confirms my opinion of him - no work ethic and no "team" mentality.

Wow. "Team, team and team," is Harbaugh's mantra. Someone didn't buy in.

play for the team, not just for yourself..........thats what will keep us winning.sit down, and shut up,and let the the other backs carry the load.one thing we dont need is another cry baby.

Willis, you might as well play for yourself, because you certainly haven't been playing for the team. See you later.

If there was any doubt, Le'Ron and Ray Rice just saw their job security improve.

WOW!

And just when I had dusted off my McGahee jersey.

"...I can't play for nobody else but me."
What city do the McGahee's play in anyway? Good luck there next year.

McGahee shows me he don't appreciate $40 million? That "just me" should seal his fate here, his teamates should shut him up for us. As far as I'm cocerned, he is now a cancer & should be gone right now.

Willis McGahee lacks class on and off the field. He had no class in Buffalo nor does he have it here.

At the beginning of the year, I defended McGahee b/c of his injuries and his performance.

I think if he were to get traded next year, we would be just fine. Heck, nothing wrong with freeing up some cap room and bringing in a stud receiver.

He could play for Anita Marks. She thinks the world of him. Maybe they will both be gone next year. One can only hope.

McGahee is not a all-pro, and he not going to the Hall of Fame. He's a good football player that has gone nowhere in his career. No play-offs, no Superbowls. Now he finds himself on a team going to the play-offs, he's playing well and producing big time finally late in the season. His legs are fresh and very ready for the play-offs. Harbaugh has him in perfect position for success. By far the most success of his medicore career. For the first time in his career he has a chance to be a real winner, a real productive player of a team. Why is he so blind? Hopefully he is not, and that interview is misunderstood, and he shows up big time Sunday. That's what I expect.

The best off season move Ozzie could make would be getting someone to take this clown. If he can get a 7th round pick for What you talkin' about Willis, I'd take it.

So long Willis....pick up your plane ticket (one way) the same time Mr McCallister picks his up.

Hey Pete,

Any chance we can send him back to Buffalo and say never mind???

Playing for team: Small yardage gains that don't help the team

Playing for himself: Big yarage gains that help the team

I don't follow Willis "I played like doo-doo" McGahee's logic there.

cut him...he is a cancer in the locker room

Wow! That last comment says it all. Harbaugh has been all about team and McGahee is all about me. So, it looks like McGahee will be thinking about himself in something other than purple and black next year. That's fine with me and probably okay with the Ravens as well since we have McLain and Rice. Pete: Do you think Lorenzo Neal will be back next year? I think he has provided a big boost to our running game this year.

...............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I think if Lorenzo wants to keep playing, the Ravens will let him.

He should just be man enough to say he doesn't want to play in Baltimore anymore. At least I'd have some respect for the guy.

I said it from day one, McGay he is a cancer just like to. Huge mistake letting JL go the the brownies, and giving up 3 draft picks for that loser. Cut his ass, and take the cap hit. Ozzie can go on the radio, and apologize to the fans for making such a bonehead move. He has always been a me first player, and always will.

Hey Willis, BYE!!!!

You play for your team not for yourself. You may have had a point but then when you say something like that it takes all your creditability away.

That's exactly what you want to hear from one of your players five days before your playoff game. Idiot. Let him dig his own grave before the team releases him.

McGahee's are a dima a dozen in the NFL. If you have a good O line you can make a pedestrian back (Willie Parker) look good. If he didnt cost too much to cut I think the Ravens would do better without him but it seems that they are stuck with him for at least next season

He sounds like a perfect fit for the Cowboys, me me me. Why in the world would you say these things right before a playoff game. What a jerk.

Let's see..... a guy that was hurt all year, attended none of the OTAs and does nothing for the community that he plays in...... Hmmm.... yeah Willis, it's all our fault, not yours.

I'm sure that off season workout program was the reason you've dropped so many passes out of the back field this year... or fumbled all those balls.

I have a friend that is a huge Buffalo Bills fan and he warned me when we traded for Willis that people in Baltimore would hate him within two years. It looks like he was dead on.

Cut him at the end of the year.... we've seen this year what hungry, young players can bring to a team.

Bye Willis.........

What a dumb comment to make the week leading up to a playoff game.

I am sure we will try to trade this bum in the off season. If he does not want to buy in....fine. We are a playoff team because of the coaching staff. They have brought respectability to this franchise and you are either in, or you are out.....

Good luck Willis...

"I'm just going to play for me"...that really sums up McGahee and his approach to football. He is, was and always will be the consumate "me" guy. Didn't he star in the "Leon" commercials a few years ago??? The Ravens don't need him or his attitude. Let him go.

Wow. Just wow.

Does this come as a surprise to anyone? By asking Mcgahee to "change" his normal off season "regimen" Harbaugh merely wanted him to stay away from the "U" and his posse during the offseason and come to camp in decent shape. I guess that was just too much for Willis to handle. Harbaugh is going to get tired of playing Wack a Mole with the few idiots that still who have yet to get with the program.

They will be conspicuous by their abscence come next training camp.

What a Fool!! He just doesn't get it!! Is Rice ready this week? It sounds like we should leave McGaMee on South Beach!! P.S. We should leave McCallister there too!!

The best part of the fact this is a radio show, is there is no excuse of the quotes being "out of context".

He was a selfish player in Buffalo and he is obviously a selfish player here.

Let's beat Miami and everybody else, win the Super Bowl and then kick this ingrate out of here.

wow... they need to CUT HIM NOW. we don't need him for the playoffs playing himself.
see later McGahee
Where can we get a transcript of that whole interview... I would like to see the context of these comments, and the other parts of this interview... to see if these comments are just being pulled out of context...

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: You can click below the item on each quote and the question that prompted it.

MacGahee was a cancer in Buffalo, so why are any of us surprised? He gives you one good year of effort then his true colors come out. He's a selfish, out of shape party guy. I'd trade him for a bag of footballs or some old practice jerseys. Bye Bye Willis...don't let the door hit you in the hind parts.

Pete,

I think we already knew that. I think we can give Ozzie a mulligan for the McGahee trade, despite the steep price in contract and draft picks.

I do wonder what the cap implications are of sending him on his way. Keep in mind, the only reason anyone can legitimately be so willing to send McGahee packing is b/c of the success of McClain and Rice. If not for them, Willis would still be the best RB on the roster (though I think we can all agree that he's very talented).

so can they get rid of me this offseason?

gotta go NOW

Not exactly the wisest PR move here on McGahee's part. It seems like he'd cooled the criticism with some decent play the last couple games. And with a good post season--who knows?--maybe he could have quieted everyone for good.

Earth to McGahee: You're not good enough a player to make such revelations.

Sounds like Mr. McGahee needs to play for Dallas.....

Pete, I'm not surprised...I am a Bills fan, (though as an Orioles fan, I have taken somewhat of a liking to the Ravens) and he did the same thing in Buffalo--shooting off his mouth blasting the program and mocking the city. He seems to be a very selfish and egotistical guy. I'm glad to see it that it doesn't matter where he plays, he can find something to complain about.

Screw you, Willis. Lazy, underachivening RB... bring on the McClain / Rice era...

Comments dont seem that bad to me. He's honest and talks straight. When he says he's playing for himself, hes prob not saying its all about him and not about the team, but that he can only focus on himself and not worry about what others are saying. Post seems a bit too harsh on him.

McGahee needs to go. His overall work ethic, apparent lack of effort on most of his running plays, and his recent comments here all speak for themselves. We gave up too much for an underachiever. Just look at our other two backs - Rice & McClain. Now there you have two athletes who WANT to play football.

I would have loved to seen Ray Lewis' reaction to reading/hearing that McGahee "can't play for nobody else but me."

On an unrelated note, do you think there is any chance that the Ravens could and would consider luring Phil Savage back into the fold with a front office position? I attribute a lot of the Ravens draft success to him, and I was worried when the Browns got him, and I was happy when they fired him, and I really want him back with the Ravens.

.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: You never know, but someone else is doing that job now and apparently doing it pretty well.

"I can't play for nobody else but me."

Perhaps my English is not so good but is Willis requesting to be named player-coach?

Peter,

I hear quite a bit made out of the VOLUNTARY OTA's that Willis did not attend. Doesn't voluntary mean optional? If the coach wants everyone to attend, make them mandatory. Is it that difficult?

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: The number of optional and mandatory OTAs are dictated by the collective bargaining agreement.

What you talking about, Willis?

Suck it up. Play for yourself and there is only you to blame.

Wow, it's not like this wasn't to be expected. When the world did revolve aound him in Buffalo, it was excuse after excuse, with a huge drop in production. He's just another player who does not respect his employer, who pays him millions to play. I know $10.00/hour workers who show more intellegence and integrity.

Typical Willis everything is about him. Coach Harbaugh has preached TEAM all season and Willis still doesn't get it. It's time to say goodbye to him.

Surprise! Surprise! McGahee is a malcontent. Won't the folks in Buffalo be shocked to hear this.

I guess this year's Ravens coaching staff was out of line to expect McGahee to be able to get through a game without needing IV fluids.

I was amused when Doss crushed that knee in the championship game. Another punk from the 'Cane brood shows what they're made of.

I thought that I caught something wrong with McGahee when he scored his touch down and walked away from his team mates. Now is really a good time for this idiot to sound off. I'm hoping that he is gone by next year.

there's no I in team.

buh bye. . .

Maybe McGahee can petition for a "bailout," everyone else seems to be getting one.

Pete - sounds all too familiar - as in T.O.'s "It's all about me."

Too bad. I had taken Willis off my Harbaugh "Naughty or Nice" list, but it looks like I was premature. Misery loves company, so McGahee joins C-Mac in getting a lump of coal for their efforts '08.

And maybe, just maybe, a ticket out of town.

This is exactly what we don't need right now. Just when we thought he was coming around. All I can say is "What you talkin bout Willis????"

Time for MaGahee to go.

What you talkin' 'bout, Willis. Thank you very much for your epic Forrest Gump scamper at Texas Stadium, and the 13-yarder v. Jax. But after giving you the benefit of the doubt last year, we learned this year what Buffalo had been talking about when they traded you. It's all about Willis: A jaker ( no OTAs, a 2 down/ 2 quarter tailback) & a faker ( there's a difference between hurt and hurting - everybody in the NFL is hurting every week). He sat, while a rookie and a 2nd year converted fullback stole his job. Might could've not waited till week 16 to break a sweat, Willis. See ya, bro - Don't go changin'...just go.

Pete:
I'm sure Harbaugh will act on this immediately, unlike Billick would have done.

I think McGahee has just sealed his fate, much like McAlister did.

Cameron has shown he doesn't need Willis to put together a winning offense...

His comments are exactly why he shouldn't return next season. The malcontents need to move on. Good bye Willis!

Every high brings a low huh. Well all I have to say is at lease we have Ray Rice (Rookie Runningback from Rutgers, Rushes for the Ravens) and Leron McClain. Those two can get the job done, IMO, better then any combination with Willis anyways. All three together would be nice but that is kind of unrealistic. There just isn't enough balls to hand off. Maybe we can trade him for a high draft pick after this year is over. Cleveland likes to take our over the hill running backs, lets make a deal. 2nd round pick for Willis and his weight room.

I thought that McGahee might be back next year after the last couple of performances. Now that he has said that, look for him to be traded for some draft picks come April. I don't see him fitting into Harbaugh's team scheme for too much longer.

Great timing Willis! There now is no doubt who will be blamed when the Ravens lose in the playoffs. The "me" guy.

It's sad that Willis just doesn't get it. HE could be a hell of a football player if he had the right attitude. You would think playing with fellow Miami boys Ray Lewis and Ed Reed would make it easy for him to have the right attitude. He's so high on himself that nothing else gets through to him. I think he made the choice easy for us. Bye bye Willis and your ego. Hopefully that will give us enough room to keep Ray and T-Sizzle. Possibly Bart Scott too. I'd hate to see Bart become another AD, Sharper, Starks, etc.

I guess showing up to training camp and practices is changing your style. I'm surprised the whole team is not injured. His job in the offseason is to stay in shape for the season. His first season here he wasn't in shape for the first couple games and this year he wasn't in shape for training camp. Maybe he should look at what the coaching staff has done with Le'Ron McClain and realize if he would have taken care of himself this offseason he would have had a much better year.

What;s the big deal? The players all play for themselves. See Preston's article on franchising Ray Lewis. The me first attitude come contract time, the sulking and missing workouts when players are franchised, etc...

This interview is only a big deal to those who don't matter. The players will play, the media will cover every little issue and make news where they can and next season it will be a non issue. Why? Because the Ravens must keep WM due to his contract...the cap hit is going to be too much to get rid of him. If he comes to camp prepared next year, he'll be fine and the fans will be happy.

WOW!! The Ravens have something special going this season and here comes Willis McGahee to Pee in everyone's Cereal Bowl. The last thing the Ravens need is a locker Room controversy right before the Playoffs. I think the other guys from the U should get together and duct tape McGahee's mouth shut when the media is around.

Send him out the door. This guy was beginning to show some potential that could help the team in the playoffs, but his big mouth has just sealed his fate. Kick rocks McGahee, you are a true idiot and a self admiring jerk.

No surprises here. He's just a self-serving idiot who doesn't know the meaning of the word "team". Hopefully, those comments have sealed his fate. I can't see Harbaugh tolerating that kind of childish attitude. And with McClain and Ray Rice on the team, goodness knows we don't need Anita's boy on this team anymore!!! Good riddance to ya, Willis.

What a DB!

Can we get rid of him before we travel to Miami?

don't let the door hit you in the rear on your way out.Same crap happened in buffalo. He is soft and weak.He said it himself he only plays for himself. All he has ever had are excuses.Let him be someone elses problem.Go mcclain, rice and ravens

Very disappointing. I hoped Willis was buying into the team and plan. When he is healthy and confident, he can be as good as anyone in the NFL. Very sad to hear he is not being a team player. He has had a number of off the field issues this year. And the Ravens cannot release him next year because they will take a major hit to the cap number.

McGahee's an ass !! He was an ass in Buffalo and still is. I hope the Fins knock him outta the game!

Ahhh, he is so nice! He started fumbling, dropping passes and falling at the first arm tackle just for the coaches...

Pete,

You know what this is called? Perfect planning. McGahee wanted to take whatever opportunity he had to set himself up to be traded in the offseason because he is unhappy with the playing time he received this year.

I learned a long time ago that men need to step up and take responsibility for their own behavior. McGahee is just proving he is not a man.

Unbelievable. Coming from a guy who has an assortment of ailments and who has made only a few contributions this season. Buffalo was right and now he has the Ravens by the balls with that ridiculous contract.
Ouch.

We have a playoff game to win on Sunday and this is what you want to focus on? WHO CARES! No wonder people hate the media.

............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Yes, it's the media's job to hide anything negative from the public. Right.

Cut him. Cut him now. "the talks of me not being THERE next year but regardless, I'm just going to go out there and play for ME ... I can't play for nobody else but ME."

The only way to win a superbowl is having everyone playing for each other (i.e Giants last year, the Pats first superbowl win, our 2000 win).

You dont want this guy around and they dont need him. Goodbye Willie, I see why Buffalo hated you.

mcgahee has always come off to me as a god guy. He has had his share of problems fom buffalo to baltimore and has stayed relatively posiive with his persona. but these comments seem pretty selfish. footbal is a team sport, and say that he is only playing for himself shows it might be time to let him loose. hey, if his playing style doesnt fit harbaugh's game plan, there are other guys who do.

As the season has gone on, I have liked him less and less. He seems to put out 80% instead of the 110% I expect. The guy's a bum.

hopefully Willis will be happier next season as the Detroit Lions' featured back. The Ravens certainly aren't where they are because of McGahee.

Na Na NA Na....Na Na NA Na...Hey hey hey...GOOOOOOOD-bye! Want to see the same quotes from old Whiny McGahee? Look at his last season in Buffalo. He's a cancer....I'd rather draft a youngster and go with McClain/Rice/Neal for now....

I'm guessing Anita Marks is the only person left in this city who still feels the need to defend this guy.

Living in Dallas, as I read his comments, they reflect an ego that would perfectly fit with the dysfunction that is the Cowboys. With their new $1B facility, one would think that they'd have sufficient space to accomodate his bloated ego along with those of Jerry Jones, T.O., et al.

If it wouldn't cripple the team's salary cap, I'd simply release him. Otherwise, I'd try to trade him if only another team could be found willing to surrender a half dozen used jock straps, a jar of heat balm, a couple rolls of athletic tape and a bath mat for him. Perhaps, Detroit...

He should worry more about the game and coming to OTA's.

I'm going to play for me. That tells it all. He will be part of the house cleaning. To bad the Ravens will take a cap hit.

How disappointing. I had really started to think highly of Willis for the way he handled everything this year. I believe that injuries were the reason for his drop off. However, we all know he came in out of shape and that he screwed himself and the Ravens when he showed up needing knee surgery instead of getting that cleaned up before camp. I can not believe that NOW, right before the start of the playoffs, he would say this. If he kept his mouth shut until after the season, he and his agent could easily have argued that Willis is a team player. When Ray Lewis was asked about his contract he said even thinking about that would be selfish and all he wants is to win the Super Bowl right now. Not only is Willis showing how selfish he is with these comments, he is just downright stupid and his agent (Mr. Rosenhouse I believe) must be shaking his head saying "What you talking about Willis???" Look for Harbaugh and the Ravens to do some SERIOUS damage control on this today or tomorrow, saying he was misquoted and the team will move on and Willis will have a positive impact on the playoffs. But we all know now for certain who and what he is. What a shame.

couldn't he have waited until after the playoffs for this? i mean why pull a TO move right before the playoffs. He can see the the good it did the cowboys. wonder how harbaugh will respond???

prediction. willis has a big game sunday. he wants to show his "hometown" that he is the man. as for next yr. hopefully he'll be somewhere else and ray rice can get more opportunity to play.

pete,,,,any word on tex signing with the orioles. just kidding. marlins fans acted as if hendrickson leaving them for baltimore wasn't a big deal. both marlins fans wished him well then went to play one on one basketball.

78 and sunny here in south florida. hope the ravens are prepared for the warm weather. they can't afford to get tired late in the game and cramp up.

It's simple, bench him! The Raven's have proven that they can win this year without C'Mac and for the most part without McGahee. So we don't need him, he can go and be fat and lazy this off season with another team...

Schmuck,
I know it's your job to report the news, but...

I wonder how many folks, i.e., from the Ravens organization, would have heard of this story if it had been left at The Monty Show? In other words, I fear what kind of locker room controversy this may cause now that you've brought it to light?...right before the first playoff game?
I would have expected this from M.Preston, but you?...c'mon Schmuck?

I doubt many (in the locker room or front office) would have known about it if left alone by the Sun.

Shouldn't this have been kept from coming out until after their playoff season ended?

...............................................................................................
Pete's reply: It was on a national radio show, but even if it wasn't, you don't want your non-affiliated media entities withholding information from you because it might be in the best interests of the team. When we start doing that, you will not be able to have confidence in our objective evaluation of the team.

From what I understand, his contract makes him uncuttable this offseason without the Ravens taking a big cap hit. Any truth to that? He must realize after being run out of Buffalo and then to complain about a model franchise, he won't be breaking the bank with a new team...

.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Yes, that's true. The Ravens would lose some cap room if they cut McGahee.

So he has made it perfectly clear that he will be dogging it during the playoffs, which is the time we need him at his best. Darn!

Pete, is Ray Rice going to be available? I just worry that we won't get that extra from Willis.

............................................................................................
Pete's reply: No feel for Rice's situation. The Ravens hope he'll be available, but aren't making any promises.

Forget these blogs' content, I can't believe the number of posters who spell "our" as "are." Wow to that!

The Ravens has been refreshing this year because a team with purpose and soul evolved. We don't need I, I , I. We deserve Aye, Aye, Aye!

The Ravens has been refreshing this year because a team with purpose and soul evolved. We don't need I, I , I. We deserve Aye, Aye, Aye!

You know, it's funny how people change views. Last year, Willis was excellent, but he was on an "underachieving" team. Now, they are winning, new head coach, new QB, he's thrown under the bus. I bet if someone came and eased themselves into your job, how many of you would be man enough to take it in stride? I've yet to hear Willis bash any of his teammates, given the current circumstances. Usually, people are who they appear to be. Me personally, I like Willis. Rice is now injured, and Willis has stepped in admirably. Just as when Willis battled with his injuries, Rice filled in. It is what it is. I agree with a writer above in saying don't read too much into the comments. Everyone can't be happy all the time. Get the most out of him as you can, I'll leave that decision up to Newsome and staff. Until then, let's worry about beating Miami.

There's a special place in hell for any reader who thinks the Baltimore Sun should withold information because it might adversely affect the team.

I do not have words to describe my hatred for those people.

I love me some me.

Once a bum always a bum! Stick his lazy rear end on the bench for the playoffs them give him a one-way ticket out of town when the season is over.

I hope that Harbaugh will just sit him. We don't need an attitude like this going into the playoffs. Besides, McClain and Rice can handle it easily. Losing him shouldn't even scratch our offense.

Willis is not selfish. Think about how he could've acted all year. When he was inactive, he didn't say a word. He actually developed a bond with all of the running backs. Were you guys screaming get rid of him after the big win in Dallas? I didn't think so.

Don't think for one minute Willis wouldn't try to DE-RAIL our efforts for the BOWL !
Don't play this guy or you'll most likely see a few ACCIDENTAL FUMBLES !!!!!
Think it's just an Assumption ?
Wanna Gamble?

how about trading willis for larry johnson of kc. he won't be 30 until next nov and he was born in maryland.

I agree with the 3 comments that didn't bash Willis McGahee. Mcgahee is one of my fave players of the ravens. I bet you people didn't call him these things when he help win games before this guy posted this. We all know how the media take words in twist them into something completely different. who is this schmuck guy, anyway?

GO RAVENS!!!

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Hey, if you want to hear what he said, just click on the audio under the item before making a brainless accusation.

Well, the only BRIGHT thing about his comments, was realizing that there would be no more HOME games this year, so no BOO's!

What a putz. No offense to the baseball player of the same name.

The problem is not that McGahee gave so little this year--with his two-step and collapse running style.

The problem is that his 1,200 yards last year was a fraction of what he obviously can do when he is healthy.

Maybe he's due for another Ray Lewis pep talk.

Sack the Sad Sack.

Up until this point, Willis has said all of the right things. It's a shame that this outburst undermines his previous comments where he shouldered the blame.

I guess to be a professional athlete you have to be somewhat delusional with a limited memory of past performances (maybe with a deadly weapon, maybe not).

Willis is lucky to be playing football after the catastrophic injury in the bowl game. I always hope that one of these guys gets it and is thankful to be playing a game ot make millions of dollars.

P.S. I still don't think he is still 100% healthy.

Me, me, me, me, me, me, me. Enough about me what do you think about me.

The Willis MeGahee mantra

Why has it taken so long for everybody to figure this guy out. I'll take McClain & Rice any day over Willis.

Goog luck to you Willis with your new team next season, if you can find one that will take you.

Whatchoo talkin bout Willis?

Actually, he's just another water head. No surprise really. Thank You Willis, please drive thru.

im no mcgahee fan either but yall need to get off the mcalister suggs and scott thing. we can afford to loose mcgahee but we cant afford to loose suggs, scott and mcalister. for the life of me i cant understand why ravens fans want mcalister gone so bad he has never had a bad season here and he shuts down every wide receiver that he plays. suggs give quarterbacks the blues and scott is hardest hitter on our team. so what these guys play have attitudes problems they play in the nfl. its a brutal sport that soft people dont exceed in which bring me back to mcgahee. he is soft and cant seem to break arm tackles unless he's mad at the coaching staff. he needs to get traded but we need to do everything we can to keep suggs mcalister and scott. we can probably replace scott but suggs and mcalister we need. some of yall comments are rediculously dumb.

He was the best back in the NFL last year;he(me) said so.Listen, folks,Willis is more appreciated here than you all can understand,I'm afraid.Maybe a new coaching style does'nt translate into him being the feature back but he has to admit that he stopped earning that right after he became injured earlier this year.Mr. McGahee is just now looking like himself and not one darn fan can control the team salary situation like a head coach and GM will during the off season. So go ahead and take your potshots at him;what will you say 3 wks. from now after he delivers a playoff performance that helps the team move forward to the 'ship??

Whatchu talkin' 'bout Willis? McGahee was a waste of money to begin with. Bye bye. The Bills were right in their assessment of you. Go take your negative attitude and over inflated opinion of yourself elsewhere. The Ravens needed you about as much as they needed Elvis Grbac.

TFN!

Plain and simple, TFN!

Yet another in the long, long list of Football Majors populating the campuses of this nation.

Being a life long Bills fan, I won't say told ya so but I will say lucky you if you've learned from your mistake before it gets worse and it will. The man (?) is cursed with a selfish attitude and unfortunately there is always another team owner who thinks they can change him.

I say learn from your mistake and move on gracefully; you have a very good team without him, be thankful for your good fortune.

Did he say he wanted to play for himself or with himself?

Dear Peter,
McGahee is a flaming A**HOLE. what player in his right mind.. would MISS the OTA's with a NEW Coach coming in.
Personally, Biscoitti cut Billick loose with a big contract being owed... I think he will tell Willis to take a Hike after the season. Atleast I hope so.
Baltimore does not need a T.O. situation here..
Happy new Year

Pete's reply: Happy New Year to you and yours. I'll be curious to see how the Ravens handle him after the season is over.

Football is a team effort. Any running back, regardless of individual skills is nothing without the supporting cast that opens up holes for him. Prima Donna's, we do not need. He was shown the money to be a team player and he should be grateful for that.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
