Ravens get the extra day
Maybe it was a good thing NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was in attendance today at M&T Bank Stadium, since the Ravens took the face-to-face opportunity to lobby for the Sunday game next week in Miami.
What a week-plus of football in the Miami area. The Orange Bowl between Cincinnati and Virginia Tech will be played on New Year's Day at Dolphin Stadium. The Ravens and Dolphins play at 1 p.m. on Sunday. And the BCS Championship Game will be played there between Oklahoma and Florida the following Thursday.
If you're looking for a hotel room at a decent price, good luck.

There are several hotels along NW 36th street in Miami Springs (just north of Miami International Airport) that offer pretty good rates and usually have availability this time of the year.
I use to work in one of them.

Peter- To revisit the payroll thing for a second. I agree with you about not going from 60 to 100 million, but.....if you can sign a pitcher for 8 instead of 5 or 6 and that pitcher is better and may net an extra few wins in the regular season..don't you owe it to the fans of a "rebuilding team" to sign the better player?
We still have to go to the games and would rather see a win.
Am I crazy?

Pete's reply: Well, I can't make that judgment since I haven't fully psychoanalyzed you, but what you say is not crazy. I'm hoping the Orioles sign at least one decent starting pitcher to take some pressure off Guthrie.

Pete- Any Word on Texiera?
Seriously, rate their chances of landing this Kawakami guy. Are the fans gonna get at least 1 present from the O's?

Pete's reply; I think they've got a chance, but he's getting quite a bit of interest.

Pete,
Now that the Ravens have exceeded all expectations and made the playoffs, I can see the doom and gloom posts coming if they don't win the superbowl. It was a great season and would be a wonderful way for Ray to exit with a final victory but even if the Ravens don't go all the way it still should be considered a successful season.

Thank goodness for the "extra day." Now I won't have to fight the bosses for that day off. We work everyday over here but fortunately the more games we win, the more AFN shows us. Not to be too optimistic, but I don't think Miami really wants to play us except maybe Joey Porters crazy self!

Pete's reply: There is much truth in what you say, but if you want them to win, they probably can use one more day to get the secondary more healthy. Stay safe and thanks for being there.

Pete--Hotels are expensive in South Florida right now! I am having trouble finding a 4 star hotel for under $400. This is a weekend not a weekday, I am looking for.
I guess there is always the beach!!!
