Ravens: Flex schedule strikes again
The Ravens' final game of the regular season has been moved into the 4:15 time slot Sunday opposite the Cowboys/Eagles game. The NFL also announced that the AFC West decider between the Broncos and Chargers will be the final Sunday Night Football matchup.
Lest anyone complain, remember how you would have felt if I had told you in August that the league would have to push back the Ravens a few hours in Week 17 because they'll be playing a climactic game that might put them in the playoffs. Think you would have said that's just fine...and it is.

They're moving it back in the hope that the Jets and Patriots win at 1 so the NY and Boston markets then tune in to root for the Jags.

Give us Gus Johnson, and I think I'll be quite content with this move! Nothing like a little yelling and screaming to get the town excited! What do you think, Pete?

Works for me. Any national exposure for the Ravens is good exposure.
And hopfully moving the game back will increase the chance of those of us Ravens fans who aren't in the B-more area anymore getting to see the game.

Rumor has it that Tex/Manny/Lowe/Bonds/Obama and Santa Claus will be guests of Angelos in his box on Sunday.

I heard from a reliable source down at 5th and main who heard it from his bookie's aunt that Angelos has invited Texeira to be his guest at the game.... Any truth to this rumor ?

Hey, it helps me out a ton. I typically work every Sunday and this Sunday I'll luckily be getting off around 4:45, so I'll only miss the first quarter or so. After missing the first half of the season, I'm getting to see a lot of the second half (off vs. Eagles, left around 5PM for Pittsburgh, store closes at 7PM for Redskins, and got off work at 8:30 for Cowboys). I ain't complaining one bit.

Hey Pete, if the playoffs started today, and we had the 6 spot, who would we be playing first?

Pete's reply: I believe they play the AFC East champion, whoever that is.

Win and we're in. I like that we're in control of our destiny.

WOW Peter that's 3 of the last 4 weeks they have done this. They must think the Ravens are that good. Either that or the NFL wants to screw the fans is some form.

It's too bad that most York, Pa area Ravens fans, and there are a lot of them, won't be able to watch the Game against the Jaguars. Comcast only carries channel 2 and 11 for most of greater York area, and the local CBS affilate out of Harrisburg has the Chargers game scheduled at 4:15 on Sunday. I'll go on line and pick up a ticket, I have been able to get them from season ticket holders pretty easily this time of the year.

Good point Peter. I would take playing on Christmas if it meant the Ravens are a win away from the playoffs with a rookie coach and QB.

I'm thrilled the Ravens are doing so well but this is the third set of plans we've had to cancel in the past few weeks due to flextime. This time it's family Chanukah party.
I'm starting to think that the NFL has proxy to my calendar.

I'm sure that the problems of a American History and Culture prof in a small European country don't amount to a hill of beans in times of economic meltdown, but the only time I can follow the Ravens live is when they are on at 1 pm on the East Coast. Moving to 4:15 or the evening puts them on too late for me (I am 7 hours ahead of you all).
Oh well, Merry Christmas to all, in case I don't write in the next couple of days.

Pete's reply: Of all the Sundays in all the professional sports leagues in all the world, they've got to pick this one to mess with you. Well, here's looking at you, prof.

Pete - love your response to the Prof! That's one of my all time favorite movies.
The change actually works to my favor since that will be my first Ravens game in person, courtesy of tickets from my son for a Christmas present. And the later start means I won't have to skip out on my other obligations Sunday morning.

I, too, appreciated your good eye for the Casablanca reference.
Last night on BBC radio, I heard them say that bankers today need to watch "Mary Poppins" if they want to know how to survive a financial meltdown at the bank. Very funny program.

Pete's reply: They might be right, but do we really need a couple trillilon spoons for of sugar?

Gil Jr - York PA fans rejoice... The Ravens game will now be carried on WHP 21 at 4:15 since the Chargers moved to the Sunday night game. Christmas came early for Baltimore Ravens fans in York, PA
