All's eerily quiet on Teixeira front
It's been nearly 24 hours since the last media revelation about the possible destination of free agent Mark Teixeira, and I know we all needed the rest. But I'm also starting to get paranoid about the deafening silence, especially with agent Scott Boras reportedly "traveling" on Wednesday.
Maybe things are starting to heat up somewhere. Maybe not. I'm just waiting for someone to report that Teixeira and Boras will be guests of Peter Angelos at the Ravens/Cowboys game on Saturday night. I don't think Peter has a suite at Texas Stadium, but I'm not ruling anything out at this point.

What a time to post your latest blog. Check it out: http://www.thebostonchannel.com/sports/18311921/detail.html
The whole Boston leadership group going to Texas? to sign Teixeira.
Seems like a strange spot.

Whats this about Boston ownership in Texas with Boras?

Pete,
MLBtraderumors.com is reporting that Boras is traveling to Boston. He will be meeting with John Henry and Theo Epstein, with the goal of the meeting to sign Teixeira to an 8 year, $184 million deal ($23m per year).
Bye bye, Tex. You could have had something great here, but now you'll just be known as just another moneymonger. I know that our right filed porch would have treated you a lot better than right and center in Boston!

This is the kind of quiet that comes just before a big free agent signs a big deal.
In random Teixeira guesses that are based on absolutely nothing other than personal opinion, Jon Heyman over at SI reported that the O's are a 25-1 shot to sign Teixeira, while giving the Red Sox even odds and putting the Nats at 15-1. Of course, Jon Heyman picked Francisco Rodriguez as his AL MVP Award winner, doesn't think VORP should be considered when looking at MVP candidates, thinks Jack Morris is more worthy of the Hall of Fame than Bert Blyleven, and praised Jose Vidro as an unsung hero in '07 when Vidro was the worst DH in the game. So basically everything that comes out of Heyman's column is garbage.

Peter,
You may have spoken too soon. Boston Channel 5 TV is reporting that the Red Sox are going to offer Tex an 8 year contract for an average of $23 million a year.
8/184 if my math is right.
Probably bad news for the beleaguered Baltimore faithful if it's true. (I can never pass up a chance to use the word "beleaguered".) Guess we'll wait and see...

WCVB in Boston reports that John Henry, Larry Lucchino and Theo Epstein are meeting with Scott Boras tonight to try to sign Teixeira.

And the contract is 8 years, $184M ($23M per).
If this is true, it looks like we're in trouble...

If this Red Sox rumor is true (and I'm not too convinced, considering that it was reported from a Boston tv station), now is that time that we'll see whether or not the O's really want Tex.
Angelos and MacPhail at least need to match the latest Red Sox offer if they want O's fans to believe that they really tried.
Otherwise, more fans are going to get angry enough to walk away from Oriole Park, attendance will drop again and the Orioles will continue to be one of the teams that just can't sign big free agents.

It's amazing Angelos was able win cases in court for millions of dollars and yet he can't even get a guy who would like to play here to sign when all he would have to do is offer at least what Boston is offering. Angelos has ruined Baltimore baseball, I guess I won't be going to any Orioles games again this year.
Thanks for preparing to sign Tiexiera, you only had 5 years to get ready for this day.

Sure it would be great to sign Tex, but does anyone really believe we will beat out Red Sox, Yanks or who else? Does anyone remember the movie Ground Hog Day, Where no matter how much Bill Murray tries to change the situation he always wakes up to the same day over and over. This is the O's, no matter how we try to change the fortune of the O's with a big signing, someone always beats us out. I used to get upset when they missed out in signing a big star, but now I don't get excited when I hear rumors. Sorry guys, no real chance of signing Tex. Welcome to " Oriole Ground Hog Day."

CBS Sports is saying that the Sox are out of the running for Tex. They have been outbid. Angels maybe?
