Guthrie builds his own pitcher's mound

Starter Jeremy Guthrie is the hyper sort, unable to sit still for very long before he’s ready to try something new. So it’s probably no surprise that the Stanford-educated right-hander constructed a pitcher’s mound in the yard of his Utah home. He’s already been on it several times just to get a feel of the slope.

Does he have a cutout of Ramon or Wieters catching the ball?

Maybe he will build a mound for each stadium he pitches in. That should keep him busy for a little while!

I love the guy- team player, great attitude, great in the community, all around good person. I hope he retires an Oriole. Guthrie could be the VETERAN presence the pitching staff needs for the next 5-6 years. Guthrie is young for his "age" and still has a lot of good games left in the tank.

Kakes needs to be signed asa freeing p! Make it happen or watch all fans completely disown the orioles organization. Orioles might as well apply to the minor leagues if they dont sign him.

"r" for ridiculous

I love this guy's work ethic. If only we could put some comparable starters in the rotation with him.

cool!

Didn't Richard Dreyfuss build a mound like that in "Close Encounters"?

Any chance that this shows the Birds are taking a crack at the intergalactic market?

Word has it that the wooden cut out that Guthrie was throwing to had better mobility than Ramon . . .

Is there any way he can build 4 other starting pitchers while he's at it? The poor guy has to be lonely!

He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
