Cheez Whiz controversy

It's almost showtime at WBAL and -- for reasons I cannot explain -- Clarence Mitchell IV has engaged me in an argument over Easy Cheese and Cheez Whiz. He claims that Cheez Whiz also comes in an aerosol can, which is ridiculous.

What's more ridiculous is the notion that anyone would challenge my expertise on processed foods. If you don't know the difference between Easy Cheese, Cheez Whiz and, for that matter, the cheese they put in those little individually wrapped Cheez and Cracker Snacks (all of which are Kraft/Nabisco products), you don't deserve to have a radio talk show.

I'm pretty sure this will come up on The Week in Review, but I just had to get it off my chest, and there isn't anything new on Mark Teixeira, so why not?

Actually, I hear Teixeira prefers cheese whiz, so the O's should offer him a lifetime supply if he signs!

Pete, I suppose the contract requires that you post at least one entry per day, even if you have to make something up. How about finding out something relevant for us, such as, say....How is Troy Patton's rehab going?

Pete's reply: Sorry for not taking my blog seriously enough, but it is the day after Thanksgiving and I had both a radio show and a column to write. I'm sure Troy enjoyed his turkey yesterday. Frankly, I thought I'd get some credit for blogging on a holiday.

What? You mean the O's haven't signed Tex yet? We're a month into free agency! Spring Training begins in only 4 months! By now the team should have signed, like, 20 free agents and have a payroll somewhere around $360.78956 million! Bah, I knew Angelos was bad for this team. How dare he take more than 3 hours to sign high-priced free agents!

As for processed cheese, I wish there was some competition for regular cheddar cheese besides Cheese Whiz. I wish I could find a jar of cheese that DIDN'T have "con queso" on the label.

For a moment I thought it was also Cheez Whiz. I did find the following interesting info on Cheez Whiz.

"One surprising use for Cheez Whiz® is as a homemade stain remover for grease-based stains. Certain natural enzymes found in Cheez Whiz have the power to break up organic greases and oils, so a number people have been known to use Cheez Whiz® as a pre-wash cleaning agent. A generous supply of Cheez Whiz® should be worked into the soiled area and allowed to sit for ten minutes before washing. Even if Cheez Whiz® is not destined to be a pantry item, it can still be kept with other laundry supplies in a utility room."

See what you can learn on the net?

Pete's reply: Thanks, but I don't think I'm going to try that any time soon.

Pete,

DId you see the Andy McPhail story in the NY TImes? Doesn't sound to promising. I hate to say I told you so, but were playing the same game as always, a few minor league free agents and another woeful season! We need to unionize the fan base and boycott games unless they put some new credible talent out there! Really, 11 years is long enough to suffer. Dollars are as available as seats to an O's vs. Royals afternoon outing! Now is the time, if not now when? Show the fans some love!

Pete's reply: I haven't seen it. I'll take a look.

Hey Peter,
Love your blog. I was wondering why the Oriioles haven't mentioned going after a pitcher like Carl Pavano. I know his track record in NY was downright awful but this may be the perfect guy for them to go after. He has a lot to prove and should come fairly cheap. What are your thoughts?
Thanks John

Pete's reply: I don't think that kind of thing is out of the question, but -- believe it or not -- I don't think he'll come as cheap as you might think.

King's Hawaiian bread and cheez whiz, microwaved for about 10 seconds...

.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: That's just wrong, but I'll certainly give it a try.

I can't believe somebody would object to your intentional use of levity. The inadvertent levity works well, too. Keep up the fun work.
TCU - No. 14 in the nation, five years out of seven with 10 wins. Not relevant to anything, I know. I'm just sayin...

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
