The roast

If you go to Page 6 of the sports section in The Sun, you'll find an almost life-size picture of me in an ad for my charity roast at the Comedy Factory on Oct. 15. I'm allowing a number of local media celebrities to hit me with their best shots to raise money for the Cool Kids Campaign.

Tickets are $25 and you can get them by calling the Cool Kids Campaign at 410-560-1770.

I'm trying to be a good sport, but it's already getting thick. When I asked the organizers what time my roast starts (8 p.m.), somebody said "as soon as you put the apple in your mouth."

Pete's reply: I like the way you think. Too easy.

Holding a dedicated roast for you is somewhat redundant when you consider that you get roasted virtually every day in the press box.

Pete's reply: Can't argue with that.

That shirt alone should be cause enough for laughter. I guess your trying to take the focus off of your writing. Man you look like you should be in a hot dog eating contest. lol I could go on and on , to easy. Can you tell Im jealous of your job , I mean watching baseball for a living. Well you do have to watch the Orioles. Good luck with your roast. Just keep telling yourself your better than Roch and mybe you will make it through. Just kidding , good luck Tim

Pete: An almost life-sized picture of you? What did they do? Deliver an entire roll of newsprint with every paper? Good luck for a good cause.

Pete's reply: Thanks. Hope to see you there. It's only 3000 miles.

Dude whats with the shoes? lol My 9 year old son was crackn on your docksiders. The outfit is a joke right? You cant really dress like that. Well you do work for the sun. Arizona is a long way from home, could you tell me where the AZ fall league is played like what town or stadium? I live in Tucson and would like to see the kid they just drafted. I hope you know what I said is all in fun and you actually seem cool.

...............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Yes, I actually dress like that some of the time, but I'm pretty sure nobody reads me because of my fashion sense. The Orioles who are in the Fall League play at the Surprise, Ariz., spring training complex. The AFL probably has a website that can give you schedule info.

Peter did inherit some good instincts and work ethic from his ancestors but by really working hard, he managed to overcome all of them.

Carl

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
