My Ravens prediction
You already know this if you read Friday's print edition, but I'm going out on a limb and predicting the Ravens bust out of their offensive shell tomorrow and score a 30-13 victory over the undefeated Tennessee Titans.
Think I'm crazy? And, if so, what does that have to do with my football picks?
I read Jamison Hensley's article about Todd Heap's apparent frustration with his limited touches so far, but I'm starting to believe that everything that comes out of the Ravens camp is targeted misinformation. For example, if everything the team put out about Ed Reed's condition during training camp was true, he'd be a Fox analyst by now.
I'm betting Heap is much more involved in the Ravens' offensive scheme this week, which will catch the Titans by surprise unless coach Jeff Fisher reads this blog.

Peter , i know you have a better feel on this then me, but i am telling you that heap by missing so much training camp didn't exactly get on the good graces of this coaching staff. Harbaugh is a no nonsense coach that will do things his way and eventually will weed out all the so called soft players from the billick era. Todd is due to make 3.5 million next year and i am willing to bet you a steak dinner at Ruth Chris that he isn't going to be on this team.

Pete's reply: Can't take that bet, because this situation is curious. I agree that Harbaugh isn't giving Heap a lot of retroactive credit for his Billick-era performance, but the guy still could be a very valuable player in this offense.

what have you been smoking, when was the last time the ravens scored 30 points. I dont remember, but its been few and far in between, and I dont think they will against a defense like the titans.I think they will win, but by a slim margin. prediction 20 to 17 Ravens.

Pete's reply: Whatever it was I was smoking, I didn't inhale. Lets see what happens.

Thanks for the warning.

I'm thinking the same thing Pete! I have a feeling the Titans are overlooking Flacco and the offense. I'm sure they'll suprise everyone this Sunday and I'll be watching from the high level at M&T Bank Stadium!

The Titans' defense leads the league in takeaways and sacks. They haven't allowed more than 17 points in 8 straight games dating back to last season. And don't look for Kerry Collins to hand the Ravens points -- he's turned the ball over just once all season and isn't close to the same style of QB he was back when he played Baltimore in the SB. The Ravens may win the game, but they aren't putting up 30 points against Tennessee. In fact, there might not be a TOTAL of 30 points scored in this game.

Pete's reply: I respect you for going on the record here. Let's see how it turns out.

I think the Titans ranking and undefeated record is a bit inflated. They have beaten Jacksonville 2-2, Cincinnati 0-4, Houston 0-3 and Minnesota 1-3. Three of these games have been at home, the loan road game was against the Bengals. Jacksonville started out 0-2 and were decimated by injuries.
So, this is a very, very weak 4-0 record when you look at it.
The Titans are believing their own hype and will struggle big time in this game. A big victory for the Ravens here.

Pete, i agree with you , the titans are very overrated, and they havent played anyone great yet, so yeha i think its gonna be fired up at M&t on sunday, and the ravens are gonna be mad about that loss on monday, there gonna take it out on the titans

sorry, pete. i don't think flacco's got enough to win this one. the only chance the ravens got is that the defence scores a bunch of points.

Hey, Schmuck. Get a load of this article from the Carroll County Times:
Farm cancels pig wrestling
Owners of an Upperco farm that had introduced Maryland to pig mud wrestling at their farm stand have decided to cancel the event after just one week of competition.
Stan Dabkowski said that while last Saturday’s event had a great turnout, he has received numerous threatening phone calls and complaints from animal rights activists who disagree with the practice.
Dabkowski said he does not believe the 90-second round between four people and a pig in a muddy pen was dangerous or cruel to the animal, but he decided the negative reaction was not worth the effort.
As a result, the remaining three nights of competition have been canceled, he said. Instead, he is offering a community pig roast on Oct. 18 where he is hoping people will support the charities that would have benefited from the profits of the continued pig mud wrestling events.
If ya can't rastle 'em, eat 'em. Only in Carroll County.
David

Pete's reply: Classic. I'll get to the bottom of this.

Pete, we both know that scoring 30 points is not possible. P.S. Give me a call sometime so we can hang.

Not sure if the Ravens will bust out of their offensive slump or not but I do have two words for Titans fans: Kerry Collins. A tiger can't change its stripes and Collins has yet to face a D like the Ravens, especially on the road.

I agree. The offense has been pretty close to connecting on the long ball, and I think this is the week they finally break through.
The Titan defense is solid, but not nearly as spectacular as the Ravens unit. Hanesworth is the only player over 300 and no lB is over 235, no DB is over 205. They got the best of the Vikes thanks mostly to turnovers caused by pressure up the middle, and they jumped the Jags who were without the starting Gs and Hanesworth ate them up. The Vikes did not have McKinney and Vanden Bosch got too much pressure.
The Ravens O line matches up pretty well vs the front 4 in a tale of the tape. Brown and Grubbs or Yanda should be able to handle Hanesworth about as well as they did Shaun Rodgers. The Ts are better off facing a 4-3 look I think as well. The Steeler OLBs were wider and faster off the ball than the guys they face this week, and the home crowd will help them get off on the snap better.
Gaither handled John Abraham 1 on 1, and I think he will also be able to keep Vanden Bosch off Flacco's back. Kearse will be chip blocked a little, and once Terry or Anderson get hands on him, he should be blockable.
This Titans D reminds me of the old Tampa Bay Tampa 2 with Hanesworth a bigger badder Sapp, Bullock as the Brooks but no Lynch behind them. They basically play 2 free safties. If the Ravens commit to the run, they will grind them down, force the 8th man up presnap, and eventually bust a couple over the top.
Heap needs to have a big game as well as Williams. One good way to beat the Tampa 2 coverage is to go over the top in the corner of the endzone and deep post. Joe has made those throws in the redzone, but has not gotten the call or grab on 2 of them. This week, they should connect, and I expect our defense to set them up with some good feild position and turnovers.
The Titans offense is not better than the Browns or Bungles, and they are not going to know what hit them, like Winslow getting knocked upsideown by Ray.

Remember, they threw the ball to Heap several times a few weeks ago. Had he caught a few of them we would not be having this conversation.

Wishfull thinking!
l don't think our o-line can handle thier pass rush and our secondary misses too many tackles!

low scoring game. ravens13-10

I'm not sure about the 30 points, but a win is in the cards. Does anyone not think Collins wakes up in a cold sweat reliving that Super Bowl? He might even have to change his shorts 1/2 way through the night? After the first sack on Sunday, he will not be the same.

The Ravens defense stinks.
Posted by: K. Collins | October 4, 2008 6:37 PM
Titans put 8 in the box, stop the run.Titans blitz in the 2nd half, open 13 pt. lead and sit on it.Ravens score once in the last half and lose,26-10.I hope I'm wrong, believe me.
