Michael Phelps' big weekend (updated)

Olympic superstar Michael Phelps, who was honored with a parade in Towson and a celebration at Fort McHenry on Saturday, is the honorary Ravens captain today and is the guest of honor in the owner's box.

There was a pregame buzz in the press box because there is a 20-foot stretch of the Ring of Honor that is covered by a black tarp. That led to some speculation that Phelps might become the first addition to the Ring without any tie to football -- other than being an admittedly huge Ravens fan.

Nothing happened during intermission, so maybe there's some other explanation.

Hey Pete.... Thought you of all pundits would've given a little TLC to Maryland who didn't and Navy who did....

Hi,

I am guessing that would be for Mr Ogden. Maybe next game ???

I have said this before and I will say it again, there should be a section of the ring of honor for either the Baltimore CFL Colts/Stallions or O.J. Brigance. O.J. should get a special section for himself, but from articles I have read about him he would probably want to share the honor with the Grey Cup winning team. The same team showed Art Modell he should move his team to Baltimore, with a fan base that was setting attendence records in the CFL over well established Canadian teams, instead of Los Angeles or some other city.

About Peter Schmuck
Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
