Joe Angel's postseason loss

joe_angel.jpgOrioles broadcaster Joe Angel is hoping someone can help him recover his 1997 Florida Marlins World Series ring and his 2002 San Francisco Giants National League pennant ring, both of which were snatched from his luggage at some point during his trip home from Baltimore to Florida a couple of weeks ago.

He's kicking himself for packing the two treasured items in his checked baggage, but had gotten into the habit because all of the team's in-season flights are on charter airplanes. Now he's hoping against hope that somebody knows something and comes forward. His name is engraved in both items, so they would be easy to identify.

"It's really sad,'' Angel said. "I'd just like to get the word out in case somebody tries to sell them or pawn them, but I know it'll be a miracle if I get them back."

If anyone has any info, I'll be happy to pass it along.

Forget the rings, the bigger question is why the Ravens didn't make a move to acquire Roy Williams from Detroit? Now Dallas has two top flight deep threats and we still only have a bunch of 7 yard possession receivers. They could have helped Flacco's development and health if they could have acquired someone that could get open.

Deke, Your a jerk! This was not your platform. Maybe you have an idea who stole them.

Deke - Roy Williams is not worth three picks in next year's draft. No where close to worth it for a 1st, 3rd, and 6th...and a huge new contract for Williams.

Don't forget the rings.
Poor Joe. That is so low class to take something with personal value like that. I hope the low life does try and pawn them and gets caught on film. At what I think they are worth you are looking at a felony. You got my fingers crossed Joe.

Pete... The O's release anyone yet or do they have to wait for the playoffs to complete? Keep up the good work.

Pete's reply: Haven't heard any roster stuff yet.

This is sad, I hope the rings turn up for Joe. Unfortunately, I cant see the Orioles replacing one of those rings until 2012 or so. Who is Roy Williams? I thought he was the basketball coach at Kansas we beat on our way to a National title. Deke, please don't bring football into a baseball blog entry some of us are done with it, 3/30/84.

Rich D, you must be having a bad day. So don't get your panties in a wad over such a minor thing. If you read Schmucker's blogs you would know that this isn't the first time a cross over topic has been discussed on his blog.
Eric, I agree with you, Dallas overpaid for Williams, but the Ravens have got to find some talented wide receivers if Flacco is going to be successful.

How are we discussing Roy Williams on this Blog? Did anyone read the Blog? Does it have anything to do with the Ravens?.....ehmmmm....NO!

When Deke said "Forget the rings" I couldn't help but hear the voice of Bogart.

Hopefully, someone will crack the case and find Joe's rings in an airline employee's apartment along with a surprising assortment of laptops, cell phones, IPods, and kinky underwear.

Here's hoping Joe stays on board with the Birds to get an Oriole ring in 2013.

Joe...

Sorry for your losses, and I regret reading the inhospitable responses. You are a gem on the air. Keep up the good work. I hope your rings surface soon.

DEKE you are are a sad case. Personal loss, versus stupid sport's point and you go the wrong way. Nice going sport!

Poor Joe :(

Somebody that cool deserves much, much better. I really hope he finds them.

baltimore seems to be a black hole for championship rings. I believe that they never recovered the ones that were stolen from Jim Palmer.

Sorry for your loss, Joe.

I bet this isn't the first time someone has said this on the blog but I'm going to say it again. Apparently it's not just a Schmuck writing this blog, it's also got a few reading and commenting.

Pete's reply: I think you won that bet.

Joe -- so sorry to hear about the loss of your rings. i hope they turn up soon. i really miss hearing you say "And the Orioles... are in... the win column!" can't wait for next year.

He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
