Hafner bad for O's at any level
Guess we should be thankful for small favors. At least Travis Hafner was finally picking on somebody his own size. He singled twice and reached base three times in all in the Indians' 6-1 victory, but the game ball belonged to former No. 1 draft pick Jeremy Sowers, who gave up just four hits over eight innings to reverse some bad numbers on the road and against the Orioles.
Hafner was activated for tonight's game after leading the Double-A Akron Aeros to victory over the Bowie Baysox in the best-of-five Eastern League Southern Division playoffs. He had not appeared in a major league game since May 23 because of a shoulder injury.
O's starter Radhames Liz needed 102 pitches to get through 4 2/3 innings, so at least he got a full workout.
Wishing you were here dept.: Blue Jays pitcher A.J. Burnett pitched seven innings and gave up one hit in a 3-1 victory over the White Sox in the first game of a doubleheader. The Jays went on to sweep the twinbill and now have a 10-game winning streak.

Peter- I don't mean to be irrelevant, but MAN is Palin smokin'.

Pete's reply: Don't worry about being irrelevant. I've been irrelevant for years, and it seems to work for me.

Since we're talking about minor leaguers here, I know Trembley said there would be no more call-ups this year but don't you think it would be fun and energizing for the fans to see Wieters and Tillman, even for just a cameo, and then let them go home? I think we've earned that. It would be nice to get a quick glimpse of what appears to be a very bright future.

Pete's reply: I've said all along that it would be fun to get a look at the future, but it probably wouldn't be in the best interests of either of them.
