Bracing for the storm
The Orioles still are scheduled to play a split doubleheader today, with one game starting at 1:05 and the other at 7:05. They have announced no contingency plans, but have made it clear that neither game will be replayed Sunday if heavy rains wash away one or both today.
Don't be surprised if the O's give up on the first game in a hurry to keep from opening the gates. The forecast is particularly bad for the period between noon and 5 p.m. Might be a good day to stay in bed and read your favorite blogger.
There is a better chance the weather will clear for the second game, which will be preceded by a Ravens Rally and T-Shirt giveaway. The first 15,000 fans ages 15 and over will receive a T-shirt depicting the Oriole Bird in a Ravens jersey. The No. 08 jersey apparently refers to the 2008 season and not practice squad quarterback Casey Bramlet.

Hilarious line. You mean the O's aren't honoring the Scrub Squad QB?
Wouldn't it be funny if somehow Bramlett ends up the starter, and wins like 6 games?
It could happen.

The Orioles should hang a sign on the Bullpen gate.... NO STRIKE ZONE. You've been pretty straight forward with us so just hang a ..... NO EXCUSE ZONE sign on this blog.

Pete,
I am up early (for on me on a Saturday morning) due to a bad dream. It's raining,
the Orioles got embarrassed, and the
pundits are predicting a disastrous season for the Ravens. This is enough
to get an educated man to start thinking
about curses again.(Maybe I am still in
the dream.) The curse of Dave Johnson
that is. And maybe John Elway. And
definitely Peter Angelos.
How else do you get a pitcher, Bass,
because he throws strikes and on
his first appearance, throws four
straight balls to force in a run?
Our beloved Dave gives a pep talk
about throwing strikes and then
you have the improbable 9 runs on
one hit (no errors) inning. Yes we
are cursed. Dave gets an extension,
and his team plays worse if that's
possible. It's so bad I am again longing for the pre-Curse days with
the other Dave.
Every competent GM, manager, pitching coach, and reliever seem
to come here, experience the curse
and leave here disgraced, scarred,
and at least worse off. I can rattle
off names like Thrift, Hargrove, Miller,
Leo, and any 2 or 3 relievers every
year. The list is endless. Mind boggling. It's the curse.
Let me blog about Elway. What ever
happened between him and Irsay (
another curse), the luck or lack of
with Raven quarterbacks rivals any
of the curses with the Orioles.
On a less negative note, I appreciate
McPhail (notice a Ph not F this time)
getting Bass. At least he's trying.
I am hoping for a repeat of 10-6 the
last time Ravens started a rookie
quarterback, as Brian Billick pointed
out. Smart guy. Still like him.
Hit those ads and support Pete and
the blogs. Only way to survive the
curses in addition to your favorite
drug, prescription or not.
