Will Montanez get his chance? (updated)

Everybody put two and two together when Baysox outfielder Luis Montanez was removed from tonight's extra-inning game against Binghamton after a couple at-bats. Can't argue. Don't see any other way to interpret it, unless he got hit in the leg by a broken bat. Love to get the odds on that.

Nobody has said anything official, but I think it's reasonably safe to predict that Montanez is headed West and Adam Jones will be headed East after the O's put him on the disabled list -- perhaps right after the game.

The guy has been absolutely white hot the past couple of weeks, but it's hard not to be skeptical about a possible promotion, since he has had several other opportunities to move up in the middle of a season and has usually struggled at the next level. Maybe this will be his moment. He has never had a minor league season like this one. (26 HR, 97 RBI in 115 games)

Guessing all of this will become clearer after the game. Chris Waters has joined the team and will start tomorrow unless he gets lost on the way to the ballpark. Don't laugh. Once happened to Pasqual Perez.

Off topic, but I'm really not so certain why Alex Cintron is back on the club. I guess he can rake, but he does not appear to know how to actually play shortstop. And now we'd have to wait ten days to move him elsewhere. Not understanding much about it, but McPhail seems to be intentional about keeping the Bowie team together through playoffs. Ok , I guess.

More importantly, can we say that the Sarfarte as a starter experiment is over?

Pete: I don't know about that. The Angels are a tough team for win-or-else.

Who did Waters replace ?

Pete: Roster move will come after the game.

So how are these guys going to fit on the 40 man roster? I've seen enough of Juan "automatic out" Castro. DFA him, and put someone on the 60 day DL?

Most importantly, can we say that the making-starting- pitchers-out-of-2- inning-relievers-who-have-a-tough-time-finding-the-plate is way over?
Angels or not, this is just silly.
Maybe its somebody making some kind of point about the lack of major league ready pitching in the organization. Where's that 15 man pitching staff when you need it.

I agree that the Angels are a tough team for "win or else" but how about "4 innings or else?"

Juan the automatic out is the only guy they've put out there that doesn't think its a soccer pitch. They way the rest of the team has been hitting they can afford, check they need, a ss that can pickup a baseball with his hands.

If they aren't going to call up a second minor league starter, then why not give Bierd a shot at it? He can't do any worse then what Sarfate has shown. Great job Pete keeping us Oriole fans and expatriot Marylanders out here in the Midwest informed all the latest news. Roch did an awesome job and you seem to have had a great start, but no more Raven news please. Ug......GO SKINS!

Mr. Schmuck, sir, any fool can plainly see the Angels are tough for any team to beat, but it was Trembley himself who said, "This is the major leagues. You're here to win."

On the Montanez topic, I'll be very interested to watch him. His numbers suggest he'd be a more experienced version of Adam Jones. If Lou is good enough, I'd have no problem making Jones himself the fourth outfielder when he gets better. Provided Montanez gives us no dropofff in defense, it wouldn't hurt to have Adam shut down for a while and observe Montanez. Or if shutting down Jones is totally ridiculous, put him back in center when he comes back, and move Lou to left. As much as Luke Scott has been well-received, and has hot stretches, even when he's hot, he's one dimensional. Defensively, he's kind of ordinary. If he were spectacular, would Trembley have been platooning him all year?

Pete: I would hope that by now, Steve, you would have figured out that I'm not just any fool. I'm in a class by myself.

Holy crap! Go O's! Way to Nick and Melvin!

This is a BALTIMORE paper. We LIKE Ravens news, and most Baltimorians HATE the Redskins. Deal with it, or read the Post online. Go husk some corn, or something.

Doc you are an idiot with the "Go Husk some corn, or something statement" You obviously are so narrow-minded that you think anyone west of Carroll County is a "hillbilly" as it's so often referred to back there. I read this post because I am a life-long Oriole's fan having grown up in Maryland. Can't give a crap about the dismal Ravens but I will endure to receive my O's news. By the way, I am born and raised in Maryland but am away on military duty. "HAIL TO THE REDSKINS". I'm sure you won't read this because it sounds like you don't have to IQ to go back and read previous blogs.

Jeff, sorry, but I live in Carroll County and we are hillbillys too LOL . Seriously, though, you coming here and complaining about Ravens stuff would be like going to the Post website to see Redskins stuff and complaining about seeing stuff about the Nationals. Just doesn't make sense.
As an aside, thank you for your service. I have a son in the Army and one in Naval basic training.

Edd, thanks for your sons. I'm not here looking for Redskins stuff, I get all that I want with the Washington Post and other sites. Not seeing your Nationals correlation though lol. I am a live and die Orioles fan. Always have been always will (no matter who owns them). Just hate the Ravens, but like I said I will endure during baseball season seeing occasional mention of them lol. I think I opened a can of worms Pete. Nonetheless thanks for all your great O's news!

Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
