Wild kingdom
MASN broadcasters Jim Hunter and Buck Martinez focused after the game on the fact that the Orioles pitching staff issued eight walks and hit three batters in the course of a game they ended up losing by just one run to the best team in baseball.
Not sure whether to laugh or cry, but I'm pretty sure Dave Trembley didn't struggle with that dilemma.
He had to follow that up by telling Brandon Fahey that he was being optioned back to Norfolk to make room for pitcher Chris Waters, who -- as expected -- was announced as the starter for the second game of the series. Trembley also confirmed that Adam Jones is being sent back to Baltimore for further evaluation of his foot injury.

It's amazing how the O's sent Burres and Liz down without a viable plan to replace them. Sarfate isn't a starter, emergency or otherwise. Then you have Waters who may or may not work out but he isn't a viable prospect to be investing innings in. Then you have the possibily of Montenez coming up but if he's going to sit on the bench with Payton playing it'd be stupid.

Pete- I have to say, I am a little upset. Obviously, I want the best players to play, but I thought Reimold would have been the first called up. Montanez, should have gone to AAA first. Simply because of his past at AA then flopping at AAA. Plus, Reimold was drafted by us with everyone slotting him into that LF of the future slot. I hope this does not kill his confidence.
Also, why would Waters get a chance over Bergeson and Hernandez. I understand Tillman is still just a boy( who pitches like a man among boys) but the former 2 have been in the system now for 3+ seasons and deserve their shots. I know they probably will get them next in a few weeks but...

Pete: I don't really have an answer. It's possible Penn was supposed to be the guy, then they shifted to Waters after he got hurt because Bergeson had pitched that night.

Instead of crying, Trembley should be asking himself why he had his closer pitching the eighth inning of a 5-1 deficit, in the first game of the series. Then he decides to send him out for the ninth, loses it, and throws 37 pitches in the process, essentially making him unavailable for tonight.
