Tonight's roster move
None of this will come as a surprise, but the Orioles optioned Kam Mickolio back to Norfolk tonight and will recall Brian Burres tomorrow to start the second regularly scheduled game of the series against the White Sox. Dave Trembley said Mickolio won't be gone long.
"He'll only go out until the rosters expand and then he'll be back,'' Trembley said.
Mickolio wasn't too concerned about spending a week back in Triple-A after only a short stay at the major league level.
"You take it as it is,'' he said. "No big deal. It happens. They had to make a move -- a needed move. Take it as it is...I picked up a lot here in two days."

Well, at least one option year is out of the way for him.

lol.
Waters and Burres back to back. Batting practice.
That's a no-no where I come from.
Sigh. Why do I have the feeling, "Next year, please."

Pete's reply: Well, it was never going to be this year, but it has been more exciting than anyone expected.

Pete,
Any rumors about Huff, Millar, or anyone else getting traded before the 31st? Unless Mora waives his no trade clause I don't see anyone else possibly moving.
Also, are the O's definitely in Ft. Lauderdale this coming spring?

Pete's reply: Nothing is absolutely definite on spring training, though I'd bet the house on one more year in Lauderdale. As for Aug. 31 deals, I've not heard much of anything. Very quiet.

Pete, this may be a non-issue if the O's don't trade George during the off season, but what's your take on JJ as a closer?
I think he is great in the role he is in, but he give sup quite a few hits so for the people that think George is ''Mr. Excitement", I am not so sure that JJ can go 1-2-3 so easily.

Pete's reply: I think he could hold down the closer role, but he'll have to win it first with Sherrill and Ray expected to be at spring training.

Having Sherrill, JJ, and Ray at the end of the bullpen will help next year when holding the leading thru 6 or 7 innings. Could be one of the tougher back of bullpens in the league. Then have Cormier, Burres and Albers as long men. I just dont see Baez fitting in very well next year. Any word on how he is doing? I doubt he is traded lbecause of the $$ due. Bullpen could be solid if Albers and JJ dont move to the starting rotation.
Pete, Will Bergessen, Hernandez, Tillman et al probably make stops at AAA before seeing Baltimore? What do you see in the future for Baez? Thanks

Pete's reply: He comes to spring training if he's healthy and the O's give him a chance to be a middle guy. I hope he succeeds. He's a good guy who's been through a lot.

Pete,
How confident are you in Trembley's ability to handle the pitchers?, i.e., choose who starts, relieves comes up and goes back down?
.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Pretty confident. He knows minor league players as well as anyone from his experience there. There just aren't a lot of great options if you don't want to rush people.
