Tonight's lineup and a Jones update

Here's an Adam Jones update and the lineup for tonight's series opener in Anaheim, compliments of Orioles beat writer Jeff Zrebiec:

The Orioles are not ready to announce anything on Jones, who underwent a CT scan on his bruised left foot in Southern California this afternoon. The club is waiting for well-known orthopedic specialist Lewis Yocum to review the film before making any determination about Jones' status.

The lineup:

Roberts 2B
Markakis RF
Mora 3B
Huff DH
Hernandez C
Millar 1B
Scott LF
Payton CF
Castro SS

Sarfate SP

Apparently, Dave Trembley didn't like the way Payton looked in the No. 2 hole either.

I really like the way Castro plays SS, as it's nice for once this season to know that double plays starting at short or slow grounders, will be handled without bobbles, drops or overthrows that sail past Millar.

Pete, does Fahey go down to the Tides with Adam being hurt?

..............................................................................................
Pete: If Adam goes on the DL tonight or tomorrow, I'm guessing -- emphasis on guessing -- that the club would call up Tike Redman, option Fahey and activate Chris Waters.

No kidding. Put Payton in that spot. Heck, put him in concrete.

His defense is nice but his offense just plain sucks. He needs to just be patient. That's all. I hope Adam is okay, he needs to get back to playing, and helping us win.

I honestly think that when he is in the lineup, the offense is better.

I think something is wrong with Trembley when he puts Jay Payton in the number 2 spot. It's like Trembley is playing a different game than the rest of us. Jay Payton isn't just an impatient hitter, he is the most impatient hitter in the major leagues. He swung at the highest percentage of pitches thrown in the majors in 2007, according to Bill James. He has a .277 OBP. Seriously not a number 2 hitter.

Why do they keep putting Mora 3rd? Am I still the only one that see him hitting .250 this season? I still don't understand how he is on pace for 100 RBI. I guess when ya hit .376 with RISP its easy. I guess my issue is the .207 with none on.

Nothing against the guys as people, but I am looking forward to Mora and Payton leaving this team in the future. Sure we get Mora for another year but thats it.

As I suggested on another board, I think in honor of a Waters start, we should all adorn pencil thin moustachios. At least, those of us with staches should. Actually I was going to do it tomorrow anyway for my b-day, but Waters just gives me an even better reason.

Pete, you should have named your blog...."Blogs from a Schmuck"
Welcome to the fold !!

Wow, AJ's injury sounds like it could be serious. We need him to get back soon to continue his development

Hopefully Payton can impress someone & we will be able to deal him.

Lou Montanez comes up instead of Tike Redman???

Tuesday Pitcher? Did they announce that yet?

Never mind, Chris Waters is being called up....read that at the O's website. (and you hinted to above and I missed it. I blame the sweat in my eyes from mowing the grass)

No official Announcement, cause somebody, has to be moved back, as pete says above, Fahey probably goes down. (but not till after the game)

Montanez was just pulled from the game and is headed to Ana. Jones to the DL probably for the season. Wieters just Homered and Tillman left after 6 with 11 K's and a 3-2 lead.

According to Orioles Hangout, Montanez was pulled from the game tonight and it looks like he is on his way to Anaheim...

Peter,
who do you like in the 2 hole?

Looks like Lou Montanez was pulled from Bowie's game tonight.
Could he be heading to Anaheim to replace injured Adam Jones????

Montanez left game after 2 at bats. Is this a sign of big moves coming?

I Jones can recover quickly. He has been fun to watch.

Birdland Todd,
I agree completely about Castro. His defense is far better than anyone we had this year. I think we will win about 5 more games this year than we would have without him. The young pitchers need to know they have strong defensive support up the middle. That way they are not forced to overthrow and try to get outs all on their own. Cintron is the best hitting SS we have, but last night was another example of why he is not the answer.

The Orioles need to address the need for a quality SS in the off-season, but until then I have no qualms putting Castro out there often. He solidifies the defense on the left side of the infield.

Since we are intent of putting young, inexperienced pitchers out there, the defense has to be top-notched. Otherwise, you are throwing them out to the wolves - the equivalent of starting a rookie QB with a poor offensive line. Like a QB, the pitcher needs protection so he can develop his skills and become successful. Putting poor defense behind a young pitcher will discourage him and take away any confidence he would have.

I'm just now trying to get caught up on the blogs since this morning. I just read The Name Game and I don't think anyone mentioned Florida Marlins second baseman Dan Uggla.

Orioles Hangout is reporting that Luis Montanez is on his way to Anaheim. Can you confirm that Peter?

..............................................................................................Pete: Seems pretty logical to me, but it isn't official quite yet.
