Time to shut down Cabrera?
Wouldn't be surprised if Daniel Cabrera gets scratched from his next start, though nobody has said anything to indicate that he's pitching hurt.
Can't think of any other reason for him to be throwing his fastball in the mid-80s. This is a guy who used to be able to jack it up near 100 and today he looked borderline helpless against the Yankees. If you're keeping score at home: 3 2/3 innings, nine hits, seven runs, three walks, and I'm trying to block out all the other three-ball counts. It was only the second start of his career without any strikeouts.
Dave Johnson and Joe Angel were using a golf analogy to speculate why he had some success taking something off his fastball earlier in the season, but they were wondering along with everybody else what's going on now.
I'm hearing that he has been getting treatment for a sore back. If that's true. Shut him down for the rest of the season. He's not doing himself or anybody else any good doing what he's doing right now. Might as well take a look at somebody -- anybody -- out of the system instead.

Shut him down and then get rid of him in the off season. May be near impossible to do if he is hurt but enough is enough. 4 years in the majors and no signs of progress. Just a big tease earlier this year that he had finally put it together, but then reality set in.
c for Cabrera is catastrophic

Cabrera fails to meet the standards set by any reasonable MLB organization. Specifically:

I took the innings eater side of the argument for many years. I think now, however, that to move him would be the best thing for this rebuilding process.
Kranny's experiment has only seemed to lower his velocity - and he's still as wild.
Poor kid. I like him but it's just so painful to watch.

Peter , i have been beating a dead horse for way to long on this subject. All he has to do is pitch 6 or 7 good innings every 7 or 8 starts and he automatically asures himself of being a lock in the 2009 rotation. This oragnization especially andy and dave t can't continue to be held hostage by somebody that surely has had more then enough chances. I know we are so pitching deprived but just like a bad marriage you can't stay married just for the sake of the kids. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH peter. I truly wish him a great deal a success in another uniform but the time has certainly come for them to mutually part ways.

I'm looking at MLB.com and I see Walker comes in to pitch...I exclaim..."oh no"...within 30 seconds he gives up a home run. Let's shut him down permanently! It's time for fresh faces on the pitching staff. Stop running out the same guys who keep producing the same negative results.

He's just sux that all to it.

If there's a physical reason for Cabrera's problems, it's a shame. But it's a change from his usual problem which is not physical but mental.
He just refuses to "pitch" instead of throwing. Everybody who has listened to Palmer over the last couple years knows what he's doing wrong, so does he, he just won't fix it.
I lived through the Dennis Martinez era when we stuck with him and stuck with him, only to see him blossom when he left. So I know the danger, but enough is enough ... he's the Oriole version of Boller in spades. Time to go.

P.U. Shut him down. Sundays are brutal.

Shut him down?
Trade Him?
Yes
Yes
Yes.....Please.
Please let the Cabrera experiment come to an end. I've never even enjoyed watching him pitch.
Plus he seems surly at times...
plus he's a headhunter which is why I didn't even want him on the team anymore.
Please, Mr. Macphail , send him packing.
And to all those who questioned P. Schmucks extensive baseball instincts when he wrote off Cabrera in spring training... well let's just hope he doesn't have to do it again next spring.

Just....just....be gone with him! I've had enough of this big tease!

There's not much I can add to what has already been said. It's time to part ways with Dan "Uncoord." Only Jim Palmer has the guts to tell it like it is, and he calls them from a professional's experience.. If he can't hit the catcher's mitt after 5 years, it's time to consider another profession! To see my team swept by the Yankees at Camden Yards is just about it for me.

Shut him down? Please get rid of him. He has been around long enough to figure out how to pitch. Never mind he has had many pitching coaches. He just needs to get it thru his thick skull that he isnt going to blow the ball past anyone anymore. Hitters are sitting back waiting for the fastball down the middle. Time for Jamie Walker to go to. Every game he gives up crucial hits and HRs. We need pitchers who can pitch not throw the ball past everyone. Almost time for the rosters to expand, lets see who they bring up and see what they can do. They cant do any worse than the ones we have now.

Sick, sick, sick-- the O's are sick. It hurts to watch them. What is it with these guys on the pitching staff that they call pitchers? Can't they ever understand that there is a difference between pitching and throwing??
When will management wake up? Get rid of all throwers --take your lumps but get rid of them.
The fans know more than mgm't. They will not get the word. Get rid of Cabrera, and Walker. Why they ever kept Trachsel is way beyond common sense. But, they keep doing the same things over and over expecting different results --insane. Hello!! Walker can't pitch anymore-- Sorry, but that is it. Cabrera has a MAJOR Head problem - Get rid of him. Anybody that has TWO pitches in the bigs CAN"T WIN. I can't believe O's pitchers after pitchers have TWO pitches.Where did they come from? High school pitchers have three four and five. Yes, you have to get them over but if you don't throw them how can you get them over?
We have one starter, two relievers and one on the DL. We have a shortstop that can't hit backed up by one that can't field or hit. A regular catcher that can't block balls or call a good game and is lazy. We have a good left fielder --Luke Scott, that they will not play regularly. He hits leftys just fine, PLAY him or trade him. Our pitchers will not pitch complete games if you take them out in the 5th inning when they are going good.. Wake up!
SORRY, SORRY, Orioles management.

Montanez misplayed two balls in left field that he got late jumps plus he played too deep. Cabrera(sic) was bad but he didn't get a break from his LF when they gave NY five outs in fateful inning.

Joe Redmond -
What are you smoking? Anybody that has TWO pitches in the bigs can't win? Ever heard of Brandon Webb? He basically works with 2 pitches, has won the Cy Young, and stands a good shot to win it again this year!! Another example? How about Mariano Rivera. Ever heard of him? Will probably end up in the Hall Of Fame. How many pitches does he basically throw? Uh, that would be TWO!!!
The fans know more than management! Really? And which franchise are you running? I'm not saying we don't have knowledgeable fans on this blog. We do! And very passionate fans. This franchise has been run poorly in the past, no one would dispute that. However, check out the direction of the team recently, and most of the posts on this blog. I think you will find that the majority approve of the job Andy MacPhail has done. The overhaul of this franchise is not anywhere near completion. There are still many missing pieces, and the farm system, which most successful run franchises rely on, is finally turning the corner. We have depth in our system which is not something that could have been said 2-3 years ago. Are we short on talent at AAA? Yes, but you can't push products through the pipeline. You develop players. Ever heard of the term player development? Well that's what we are in the process of. It will take a couple of additional draft classes to stock the system an in the mean time, we can begin adding a few mid level free agent signings, as they make fiscal sense.
So, criticize all you want about Payton, Millar, & Ramon playing. A lot of people have on this blog, and that's OK. But then start asking yourself why these players are playing. Eventually, if you are not drinking the kool-aid, you will realize at the moment, we have few options. The players being developed in AA need to continue to do just that. DEVELOP. We have rushed players to the majors before. How has that worked for us in general?

The only thing about cabrera that is good is his live arm..if he is not breaking 90 mph then that is major problem...What are the orioles problems with throwing strikes. Sarfarte has done a good job of starting to realize to go right after the hitters..the other guys need to learn this.. Burres, Olson. If you throw 88 mph you best not be walking a ton of people
