See you in Sept: The final chapter

bergesen.jpgDave Trembley indicated today that he and pitching coach Rick Kranitz have talked about the possibility of going with a six-man rotation in September, which is great news for those of us who thought they were having trouble coming up with three.

They'll get an infusion of talent on Monday and there are several pitchers at the Double-A and Triple-A level who have earned consideration, most notably Bowie 15-game Bradley Bergesen (right), whose name kept coming up while the club was shuttling in starters over the past few weeks.

Trouble is, Bergesen and many of the pitchers everybody is curious about are not on the 40-man roster, which complicates the situation, since there are a few position players in the same boat. The top non-roster candidates are Bergesen, David Hernandez, Andy Mitchell, Jason Berken and Jon Leicester, but I can't imagine you'll see more than a couple of them.

My take: I've been itching to get a look at Bergesen for weeks, but the club may feel he has thrown enough pitches this season. Trembley already has said Kam Mickolio will rejoin the bullpen and wouldn't be surprised to see Bob McCrory, since he is on the 40-man.

Now it's your turn. Who do you want to see? And don't say Chris Tillman because Trembley just said he won't be here this year and probably next year either.

Um, how about all of these fine men you just mentioned, Peter?

First up would be Bradley Bergesen, Kam Mickolio, David Hernandez, Bob McCrory, Andy Mitchell, Jason Berken, and then Jon Leicester.

Noone from Bowie. See them at Spring Training. No more rushing prospects to the majors.

Fredy Deza, Bob McCrory and Aquino back from DL. Suck it up for the final month with Burres, Olson, Waters, and Liz.

Nine entries in less than 12 hours. Is that a new personal record?

Pete's reply: I think my record is 12.

I see Brian Burres brought his 'A' game tonight. He must really like it at Norfolk. I sure hope this team doesn't go into next season with a rotation of Guthrie, Cabrera, Olson, Liz and Burres. That would be another joke on Orioles fans.

I would like to see anyone Brian B. - he's a soft tossing lefty who always seem to be given multiple chances. Jamie Moyer has done more to hurt us this year than he can possibly know! I check out the game online and see it's 4-0 and of course it's Burris getting slammed all over the yard...can we please turn the page on him? PLEASE! It's a slow pitch softball game everytime he goes out there. After that vent - I do think it's wise to monitor innings by the young pitchers - but a start or 2 wouldn't Bergesen.

Ruling out next year would be beyond foolish. Tillman is a top 10 in all of baseball prospect. To say he couldn't help the rotation by the all star break seems very premature.

Another 4a pitcher takes a foray into a major league lineup and ends up getting treated for a major league beat down. If this year was all about the starting pitching, you gotta think failure might not be too strong a word. Hopefully they learned enough about who to jettison from the 40man and next yrs staff bears little resemblance to this mess graciously referred to as a major league pitching staff.

Did the save the ball for Lou Montanez's first major league hit last night,,,chonologically speaking ? Does that mean that his *first major league hit, and his first major league hit in his first major league at bat are two completely different things? Will the hit superseed his "Homerun in his first official at bat"?

I'll ask the question again, why is Bergeson getting the call up rather than their other three starters who, other than wins, have better stats than he does?

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I answered. I don't think the team is favoring Bergesen over the others. Sometimes, they leave the guy they like the best behind. Don't have any special insight on this situation yet.

I feel like a good prospect either is in the Majors by age 26, or at least they are tearing up AAA. Tike Redman, age 31, .295, Chris Roberson, age 29, .275, Seb. Boucher, age 26, .265 and Jeff Fiorentino, age 25, .278. My guess is that Jeff is the only Schmuck outfielder that the Orioles should recall.
Sorry about the pun.

Pete, When you ask who we want to see. you also need to ask who they want to drop from the 40 man roster to see them. It is easy to say we want to see so and so ,but who can we afford to just drop to see them?

What is a 4A player???

I hear people in hear calling players 4A.

Obviously there is Major League, AAA, AA, A

Would 4A or AAAA be Major league level??

I thought it might be people being not overly smart. From Jim 66: "another 4a pitcher takes a...."

Am I just missing some league? am I the not overly smart one?

Is it supposed to be a "slam" on the player calling them 4a instead of Major leaguer?

Am I reading way to much into it.

It just always bothers me when I read a 4a comment. Educate me please!!

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: The term is semi-sarcastic, referring to a player who is too good for 3A and not good enough for the major leagues.

how bout craig anderson anyone?

apart from a brutal first half in AAA..

6-0 last 10 outings..
5-0 3.05era since the all star break..
and finshed last year in AAA with 7-3 2.97era?

what more does he have to do to get a shot?

Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
