Mickolio comes up (Liz on deck)

The Orioles called up right-hander Kam Mickolio from Triple-A Norfolk to take George Sherrill's place on the roster. Mickolio, who was acquired from the Seattle Mariners in the Erik Bedard deal, had a 1.50 ERA in 15 games (18 innings) after being promoted from Double-A Bowie.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the club moved Matt Albers to the 60-day disabled list.

The Orioles still need to decide on a starter for Friday night's game against the Yankees at Camden Yards. Despite a blog-driven clamor for Bowie 15-game winner Brad Bergesen, it appears the club is leaning strongly toward Radhames Liz, who has pitched very well since he was sent back to Norfolk. That roster move probably won't come until tomorrow or early Friday.

OK, is it Mic KO lio, Mick o LIO, I've heard both..

...............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I've been pronouncing it Mick-O-lio. Haven't heard it much the other way.

Glad to see Kam make it to the big league but ,I though heard Matt Albers was on his way back.

.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: He may be. The 60 days is so retroactive that he could come off it as soon as he's ready.

Ah, whatever. Liz is gonna bomb against the Yankees. The team's gonna be sorry when they see Liz be knocked around before the 5th inning.

I don't understand why they're not gonna give Bergesen a chance. Oh well, I guess we'll see him in September.

Drinking games in Liz's starts will be entertaining.

For what it's worth, back when the trade was done, Roch (remember him?) said it was pronounced mick-o-LIE-o.

.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: I never argue with Roch, but I'll ask the kid when I see him.

Hey Pete,

I've heard raves about the Bedard trade, but one person who is rarely mentioned is Tony Butler. How is he doing?

Looks like your predecessor disagrees on the pronunciation...

I don't give a hoot whether you pronounce it Mick-whatever. The real concern is can he throw Mick-strikes.

Peter,
What is the status of Luis Montanez?
He was on fire until he got injured on the base pads?
Dave Tremley mentioned that it was not a serious injury and he would be in the line up in a few days.
Will he be back in the line up soon?
When Adam Jones gets set to get back into the line up, will Lou get a chance to play along side Adam in the outfield.or or maybe at shortstop.
let me know.........

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: He's in there today and he's fine. Doubt the club is thinking shortstop of the future. If he's the real deal at the plate, maybe 1B at some point.

How many times are people going to ask if Montanez will move back to shortstop? It was widely reported and discussed when he came up that HE long ago determined that there was too much pressure playing shortstop and it so affected his hitting that he decided to move to the outfield (awhile ago). HE said he's not a shortstop and he's never is moving back there. He's not going to be playing shortstop.

I think I remember from back when he was interviewed in spring training that it's mick-oh-LIE-oh

..............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Why are you asking me. I can't even get their first names right.
