In case you nodded off
The Orioles staged an unlikely four-run rally against major league save leader Francisco Rodriguez last night, only to lose the game, 6-5, when closer George Sherrill walked in the winning run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth.
After the game, Dave Trembley confirmed the roster moves that had been rumored for the previous 24 hours or so. Triple-A call-up Chris Waters will start tonight and Brandon Fahey was optioned out.
Adam Jones headed home on a red-eye flight last night to have his sore foot evaluated by team doctors, and could be replaced on the roster by gametime by Bowie outfielder Lou Montanez if the decision is made to put him on the disabled list.
It was a very discouraging first day in Anaheim, but Trembley refused to look at it that way.
"I'm real proud of the team,'' he said on MASN. "They came back against the best team in baseball...I think we showed what we're made of tonight."

Any idea who has already cleared waivers? Most of the roster would seem to get passed through. Any interest in any of them by other teams? We'd get nothing significant in return if we traded any of those players but it would move some contracts and open some spots on the roster for younger talent.

Pete: Waivers are confidential, so that stuff leaks out slowly. Haven't heard anything yet, but I presume the O's will try to pass everyone (except maybe Jones and Markakis) through at some point.

You know peter i admire dave t, for being a positive person all the time. He viewed that comback as somehing special, saying i THINK WE SHOWED WHAT WE"RE MADE OF TONIGHT, but in reality that half filled glass, and that half empty bull is getting really old The 8 walks and the 3 hit batters is the same old story line lfrom a pitching stafff that stinks, he shoudl be pissed off instead of saying how encouraging he feels, he should be pissed off that Flat brezzy who after a miracle start has shown that he isn't a closer and has really let the team down if the truth be told. It's ok to say positive things but for heavens sake it's also ok to get mad and scream once in awhile about the constant ineffective way that we pitch.

Stop trying to replace Roch , it can't be done,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,start talking football , that will help.
Pete: Thanks for your support.

Sherill's a very good pitcher, but the guy is overused and brought in when he doesn't need to be. If it's not broke, don't fix it." We should at least be at .500 right now.

The other Name Game player no one mentioned yesterday is Blue Jays infielder Marco Scutaro.
I know the Angels are a great team now, but let's hope Chris Waters cools them off.

Didn't make it to the end of the game, but did hear Thorne talking about his conversations with Teixeira. Looks like he is still interested in talking to the O's. And he says he still considers Baltimore home. Lets get it rolling!

K-Rod has got to be the shakiest 40+ save closer ever. Every pitch he comes off the mound a different angle than the time before. The Angels are secretly terrified that he's going to be exposed in the playoffs. I hope he doesn't win the Cy.

Pete: He'd be on my team.

Yeah, as exciting as it was to watch our beloved Os comeback against the best closer in baseball, it was that painful to watch Sherrill squander away the effort of his teammates. Does anyone still believe that Sherrill is still the best option as closer? His ERA has been ballooning while Johnson has managed to keep his under 2.00--give Johnson a chance!

Dear Peter , I was trying to be a bit sarcastic , sorry it did not come off that way,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Your blog is fine , the point I was clumsily trying to make was you need an identity all to yourself,,,,,,,,,,,this still looks like Rochs blog and your not Roch your Peter , I'm really trying to help although it didn't look like it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,sorry man , I will try to be more kind.............
............................................................................................
Pete: No sweat. I'm not trying to be Roch, but I am trying to keep the O's info coming along with everything else, so I guess there is a similarity there.

Whats the word on Mr. hard luck, Hayden Penn? I can't believe this guy's misfortune. Everytime he's about to get his big chance something happens to him. Was he badly hurt by that bat?

Pete replies: I don't think it was anything serious. He took a stitch, and it probably cost him a call-up, but he's okay.

"Pete: He's be on my team."
Are you sure that comment wasn't from your cousin, Popeye Schmuck?
..............................................................................................
Pete: Oh, sorry. Meant "He'd be on my team." I'll go back and correct it.

Tough loss. I'm pretty sure they would like to deal Millar and let Salazar play 1st. Montanez [pronounced Mon tan yez] is hot. Both are good hitters. Happy to anounce my boy [ sort of ] Leon Williams [ Gibbons and Ouio U stand out ] has agreed to terms last week to play pro basketball in the Turkish league next year. Three other Americans will join him on the team.

Overused?! Sherill has been used maybe 4 times since the ASG

I had a really bad feeling when Sherrill trotted back out there for the 9th. I wanted to see the more reliable Jim Johnson. I hope Johnson doesn't walk as many No. 9 batters as Sherrill does.

Peter, please don't become like Roch. We have enough puckering being done by him and his MASN/1300 gang.
According to informed sources, Texeria dislikes the other Peter for what he has done to the Orioles as much as most people his age who grew-up liking the team.
.............................................................................................
Pete's reply: Well, you've got better sources than me on that. I haven't heard that, though it wouldn't necessarily surprise me.
