Eight RBI is enough

Luis Montanez might just force the Orioles to give him a look if he keeps swinging the bat the way he has the past few days. He hit for the cycle Friday night, going 5 for 6 with eight RBI against the Altoona Curve, and now has 13 hits in his last 19 at-bats.

After the game, I heard they changed the name of the Altoona team to the Hanging Curve.

Can't imagine I'm the first one to drop that obvious line, but you know what they say. Shamelessness is next to Godliness.

Montanez became the first BaySox player to hit for the cyle since Mike Fontenot, who is now accompanying the Cubs to the World Series, in 2003. The eight RBI tie a franchise record, set by Doug Gredvig in 2002 and equaled by Cody Keylor in 2006.

Now, go figure. The BaySox scored 19 runs on 19 hits and only one offensive player failed to get a hit -- Matt Wieters.

Why isn't Brian Roberts stealing basas lately?

Bill, might have something to do with the fact that July was his worst OBP month of the year (.348). pete

Love your picture,it is such an improvement over Roch's. You look just like a guy I see hanging around the playground over by my godkids elementary school.

great new blog. really looking forward to reading it. any thoughts on who we might bring up from the minors to be the next number five starter?

Mike: Dave said this weekend he would decide after tomorrow's game. I'll guess Bergeson (13-3, 2.68 ERA at Bowie). pete

For the love of all that is holy, give Montanez a call-up! What does the guy have to do down there?!

wow. the game wieters go hitless everyone else hits the ball and they score 19 runs in bowie... hahahaha

How much can you really hate on Cormier for those 5 runs? His GB/FB ratio in his outing was something like 4:1. It's not really a pitchers fault if the allstar infield of Fahey/Cintron/Castro/Millar has worse range than a stove.

Granted, I don't think Cormier should be up here either, but I'm having a hard time blaming the guy on not preserving the shutout.

Congrats to Montanez...but before he skips AAA and heads to Baltimore. Let's see if he can hit on the AAA level and also hit in Norfolk Tides "Graveyard" for hitters..Harbor Park.

The way Garrett Olson was eating up innings it made me think of Schmuck at a buffet table. If he doesn't watch himself he'll look like me after awhile...Gotta run, the donuts just got here.

Shamelessness is next to Godliness.

That explains the shirts.

There is a tremendous clamor for the Orioles to promote Luis Montanez. Yes, let's give him a chance to follow the footsteps of the immortals Doug Gredvig and Cody Keylor.

Schmucker:
Why no movement of Riemold and Montanez up to Norfolk? The Birds moved Wieters up a notch from Frederick to Bowie at mid-season, so why no movement on the R & M boys? What is MacPhail's logic in keeping them at Bowie? By the way, your picture is good, but the shirt is outstanding. It kind of gives you a Rodney Dangerfield look.

Deke, you're right. I've definitely adopted Rodney's "Ordinary Guy" look. I think Montanez will be headed somewhere soon, but I don't have a feel for Reimold. pete

That means you can expect a little of everything in The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.
