Bizarro World
News item: Kyle Boller was named Ravens starting quarterback for Thursday's game against the Patriots on the same day that Packers coach Mike McCarthy publicly denied slam-dunk Hall of Famer Brett Favre the opportunity to compete for the starting job.
News item: The Orioles called up the last pitcher anyone expected from Triple-A Norfolk to face the winningest team in baseball, and Chris Waters gave up one hit over eight shutout innings in a definite "reverse lock" situation.
News item: The Baja Men's "Who Let the Dogs Out" beat out Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice Baby" in a poll by Spinner.com and AOL Radio to determine the worst pop song of all time.
My take: There apparently is a disturbance in the force.

TAKE A GUY OUT AFTER PITCHING ONE HIT BALL FOR EIGHT INNINGS. IS THAT WHAT YOU CALL "OVERMANAGING"?

Chris Waters made John Waters proud tonight. He was the Egg Man, the Egg Man!
Yes, goose eggs on the board through 8, a 1 hitter in his first 8 innings in the Major Leagues, and Georgie Boy cleans up in the 9th without breaking any shells.
Way to go, Chris Waters!

Not sure about Kyle starting Thursday, but what a class act Chris Waters appears to be. Just watched his post game interview out here in California on the Angel's Fox post-game report. Just a humble, fresh breath of air. And all of the Angel's reporters had only great things to say about him. Great job Chris!!!!

Pete, love the new blog. You've exceeded my expectations. I know your first thought is probably that there's a self-depreciating response in there, but what I mean is that Roch was a tough act to follow.
Anyway, in honor of a stellar performance by the rookie tonight do you have any good stories you'd care to share from your rookie writing days?

Pete's reply: I can tell you this, my debut wasn't quite so auspicious.

Gotta love the way Waters pitched tonight...looked very poised and very much in command....if Adam Jones is out 4-6 weeks, I think they should just shut him down for the season and look to 2009....gotta hand it to him, he had a fine first year and he's gonna really be special....good job on the blog Pete....keep it up!

Hey Pete, you're doing a great job so far.
Would be very interested in hearing why Trembley pulled Waters after the 8th. He was at 104 pitches, but was dealing. Why not let him go out there and pull him if somebody gets on. He waited a LONG time for tonight...he should have been given a chance to close it out himself!

Pete's reply: I don't think he's complaining. I address the issue in a few minutes.
