Peter Schmuck wants you to know that, contrary to popular belief, he is more than just a bon vivant, raconteur and collector of blousy flowered shirts. He is a semi-respected journalist who has covered virtually every sport -- except luge, of course – and tackled issues that transcend the mere games people play. If that isn’t enough to qualify him to provide witty, wide-ranging commentary on the sports world ... and the rest of the world, for that matter ... he is an avid reader of history, biography and the classics, as well as a charming blowhard who pops off on both sports and politics on WBAL Radio. That means you can expect a little of everything in
The Schmuck Stops Here, but the major focus will be keeping you up to the minute on Baltimore’s major sports teams and themes, whether it’s throwing up the Orioles lineup the minute it’s announced or updating you on the latest sprained ankle in Owings Mills. Oh, and by the way, that’s Mr. Schmuck to you.

Peter, I hate to say it, but looks like Cody has put himself in " Ravens Draft Pick Busts." He was healthy in college and how was Ozzie to know beforehand?

Agreed. There's no reason to place any blame. I just feel sorry for the guy. pete

Raven?.....UG.......Hail to the Redskins! Sorry I grew up in Damascus, Md. Was a diehard Colt fan but could never root for a franchise that left another city the same way the Colt ownership did to Baltimore.

Jeff - I know what you mean, but there is a huge difference between the Colts leaving Baltimore and the Browns leaving Cleveland. For starters, there is still a Cleveland Browns team playing in the NFL, with only a two year break without one. The horseshoe helmets are now in Indy. Also, Modell was completely out in the open with his dealings, unseemly as they were. Yes, there was incredible irony in the Baltimore civic leaders openly courting a team from another city, but it was pretty clear that the NFL was not going to let Cleveland be without a franchise very long.
But I will admit, I could not really root for the Ravens wholeheartedly until after Cleveland got their own team back. Since then, it's been easy to be a Ravens fan. In the grand scheme of things, Modell was a much better owner, in Cleveland and in Baltimore, than Irsay ever was. It's just a crying shame that Baltimore had to lose the Colts to get rid of Irsay.
Besides, come on, how could any self-respecting honest-to-goodness Colts fan ever become a Redskins fan? It's okay to acknowledge the greatness of Joe Gibbs I and the teams he put together, but rooting for a Snyder-owned team is not something that meshes with Baltimore sports team sensibilities.
Aside from that, I do generally respect your comments on the blogs. Cheers.

Thanks for your comments Jack. I understand they weren't the same situations and all that but still. Anyhow, I was rooting the Redskins long before Snyder came along and rooting for the Orioles long before Angelos. They are about the same in many respects. Both I sincerely believe want to win really really bad, but have the Steinbrenner syndrome (not able to delagate everyday decisions to the folks he hired to do them).
